Danycka and Domynick Milis: Wisconsin siblings, 18 and 21, killed in wrong-way crash during family vacation
OMRO, WISCONSIN: A happy holiday time for a Wisconsin family turned into their worst nightmare after two siblings died in a car crash because of a wrong-way driver. Danycka and Domynick Milis died on the spot after the 47-year-old suspect's vehicle collided with their car. Danycka was 18 while Domynick was 21. As reported by PEOPLE, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the victims along with two other kids — Drake Milis, 13, and their cousin Kyley Larsen, 17 — in the backseat were on their way home after seeing a Christmas lights display at Daytona International Speedway in Florida when the accident happened.
But the other two passengers survived the accident. "I can't make sense of this or wrap my head around the last 20 hours. Domynick and Danycka were the best of friends and I am thankful they had each other on their journey to heaven. I know they had so many waiting at the gates to welcome them home. Domynick and Danycka were both organ donors so someone will be able to see this beautiful world through their eyes, hear their heartbeat a bit stronger with new valves and walk a little taller with new veins,” the siblings’ devastated mother Tina Milis said in an update on a fundraiser.
According to Chitwood, the fatal collision occurred around 7 pm when the suspect, also accused of armed carjacking, was spotted in a Walmart parking lot, and to avoid getting caught by authorities, he fled. While escaping, he also turned off his lights, drove at speeds exceeding over 110 miles per hour, and lastly made a U-turn into oncoming traffic on the I-95. Though authorities tried to close the I-95 during the hassle, the victims tragically got hit by the suspect’s vehicle before that while following behind their parents' car. "I don't know what you say to the family, this time of year. They have a great night of Christmas lights and their kids are murdered," Chitwood said, who also mentioned that the accused had 50 earlier arrests and no driving license. He went behind bars eight times in state prison and his criminal history has been written on over 200 pages that include carjacking, home invasion, robbery, and grand theft. Reports also said that the deadly collision took the life of the suspect too.
The GoFundMe page set up for the dead siblings stated, “We are asking for prayers to help with having to deal with this kind of devastating loss. Also, we are asking for any kind of donations to help with transporting their children back to Wisconsin and funeral costs. Any kind of help is greatly appreciated.” Another page has been launched for Larsen, where an update stated, “Kyley is out of surgery and is all closed up! Everything looked great! They are hoping to get her up and walking tonight. Let’s pray hard to give Kyley the strength she is going to need to start healing. Kyley we know you can do it kid. Dig deep for the strength and keep fighting. We are so proud of you.”
Kristine Boegh who knows Milis' family wrote on Facebook, “Finding out that 2 people you love died in a senseless tragedy is very hard to take. 2 people who had so much life ahead of them. 2 people that embraced life, and would do anything for anyone who needed it. They were sincere and selfless people who cared about their community. Omro has lost 2 people who have made a difference in their community. They were always willing to find you and talk, and they were huggers. That is what I will miss the most - their conversations and their hugs! Today as the New Year is upon us, I will celebrate their life! Very valuable lives that were taken too soon. Fly high Domynick Milis and Danycka Milis! You will always be in my heart! Love you always!!”
