'Historic' winter storm wreaks havoc in the Northwest, brings 'very unusual' snow in Hawaii

The National weather service said that strong gusts hit nearly 70mph in some of the regions during the storm, and the agency has warned of possible coastal flooding in the region.

A powerful snowstorm struck the Northwestern region in the country again, wreaking havoc in the area, and even bringing "unusual" snow to Hawaii. Officials ordered all schools across Washington state to be closed and the legislature reportedly canceled all hearings on Monday.

Reports state that Seattle's metro area has already been hit by three snowstorms this month and according to the National Weather Service, the Seattle-Tacoma international airport has already received 14.1in (36cm) of snow so far in February, which is more than twice the annual average, making it the snowiest month in over 30 years. Forecasters said that more snow or rain was expected on Monday and Tuesday as a lingering jet stream drives cold Arctic air into the normally temperate region, which has resulted in snowfall in regions as far as away as Hawaii, the Guardian reported.
