WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA: A high school was put on lockdown after gunfire erupted on campus on Wednesday, September 1. Police confirmed there was a "shooting on school property," and added that they are doing everything possible to keep the children safe. Reports further said that an active investigation into the matter is going on while the school remains on lockdown.
Authorities noted that at least one person was reportedly shot in the incident at Mount Tabor High School. Another shooting incident was reported in a North Carolina high school two days ago, when a New Hanover High School was placed on lockdown after claims of a shooting on Monday, August 30. A similar incident occurred at Washington Middle School, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a wherein 13-year-old bully fired six bullets. A sixth-grader girl at Rigby Middle School in Idaho went on a shooting spree injuring three before being arrested in May.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, "There has been a shooting on school property. We and the [Winston-Salem Police Department] have secured the campus and are doing everything possible to keep students safe." The sheriff’s office further noted that they have begun transporting all students to the Robinhood Family YMCA, a little over a mile away. "Parents can report there to be reunited with their children. Reunification will take some time as students are being transported in stages, " authorities said. Cops further added that they are "actively seeking the suspect."
