LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix’s action thriller ‘Extraction 2’ starring Chris Hemsworth is ready to take its fans on a dangerous mission through fast-paced and intense action sequences. The movie will release on June 16, 2023, on Netflix and will layer the narrative of Tyler Rake, who returns after suffering gnarly wounds in ‘Extraction’. Back in 2020, the first part excelled in its action and visuals, becoming the most-watching streaming movie of the year. Although writer Joe Russo focused on adding an emotional touch to the character of a black-market mercenary, he basically ended up shooting more action shots. Apparently, ‘Extraction 2’ did find its way back, however, fans are already speculating over the third part of the movie. Well, the third sequel highly depends on the success of the upcoming movie, says director Sam Hargrave.

After two years when the first movie debuted, we’re about to see the surprising return of Chris Hemsworth's character Tyler Rake as he ventures on a new mission to extract the family of a Georgian gangster from a hellish prison. Hopefully, this time Russo and Hargrave probably pushed the action to the next level as ‘Extraction 2’ promises to deliver a 21-minute oner featuring a prison fight and Rake literally on fire. In ‘Extraction’, Rake seemingly got shot in the neck, falling off a bridge. However, ‘Extraction 2’ trailer reveals somehow Rake returned from the dead and is ready to take the audience on a high-octane journey through hand-to-hand combat, gunfights, and breathtaking action stunts. Whether this installment will fare remains to be seen, but if it does, we can perhaps expect to see more of Tyler Rake engaging in some hardcore extraction missions in the future.

Will there be ‘Extraction 3’?

In the era of the cinematic universe, it is evident that ever-escalating waves of streaming content continue to roll. In 2020, Russo announced unleashing a series of interconnected movies as he revealed that they might be in the process of expanding the film universe, delving into the lives of both existing and new characters from the first movie. The spin-off movies are yet to take shape as Netflix is waiting to garner the success of ‘Extraction 2’. And if does mesmerize its audience, expect to count at least a third movie featuring Tyler Rake.

In an interview with BroBible, Sam Hargrave announced that besides he’s all set to direct a third ‘Extraction’ installment, the gears are already in motion. He said, “We're kind of waiting to see how the second movie is received. Fingers crossed, if people enjoy the second one, there already is — and this is without spoiling anything — but there is a story in development for a third movie in the works. What it is exactly, I can't say right now, but I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake”. He also confirmed that Chris Hemsworth is very much excited and interested in “reprising the role” of Tyler Rake. This explains all the pieces are in place for the ruthless mercenary to once again drop the bomb, only if his latest extraction mission proves to be successful enough.

Is ’Extraction 2’ Tyler Rake’s last extraction mission?

At this point, the future of the ‘Extraction’ franchise entirely depends on how well the second movie does after its release. Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth is taking a break from the spotlight to spend time with his family following the likeliness of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Besides, he earned the break considering the man was literally set on fire for a brutal one-take in ‘Extraction 2’. Again, it doesn’t mean he won’t be taking Rake’s role if and when Sam Hargrave decides on another sequel. Although how far Rake’s character can go remains to be seen as ‘Extraction 2’ revealed some poignant moments between Rake and the boy, Ovi. Let’s see how far Hargrave has pushed to sustain the existence of extraction missions.

‘Extraction 2’ will release on Netflix on June 16, 2023.
