Contains spoilers for 'Dark Matter'
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: As 'Dark Matter' finally reaches its conclusion, fans wonder if the series will return with another season. However, at this juncture, the renewal of Apple TV+'s series remains uncertain while we continue to hope for the best.
Based on his 2016 novel of the same name, 'Dark Matter' is created by renowned author, Blake Crouch. The series introduces Joel Edgerton as Jason Dessen, who is kidnapped by an alternate version of himself.
This fictional scenario of multiverse travel divided into nine, hour-long episodes, promises a journey of emotions, thrill, and nail-biting drama.
Here's what we know about 'Dark Matter' Season 2
As of June 2024, Apple TV+ has not announced another season of 'Dark Matter'. This may be because Blake Crouch's novel doesn't have a sequel. This makes it highly unlikely for 'Dark Matter' to have a second season.
However, we can't give up on our hopes yet. The sci-fi series has been receiving excellent viewership and rave reviews which may prompt Apple TV+ to green light a sequel.
If that happens, they will either have to come up with a brand new theory revolving around the concept of multiverse or continue the story of different characters such as Ryan Holder (Jimmi Simpson) or Amanda Lucas (Alice Braga) in parallel universes.
What happens in 'Dark Matter' Season 1?
After Physics Professor Jason Dessen is abducted by his alternate self in Episode 1, he wakes up in an alternate reality.
In this world, he is a renowned physicist and has built a box based on the superposition theory of quantum mechanics.
In Episode 3, he elopes from Reality 2 along with Amanda Lucas, a psychologist, and Jason 2's girlfriend. The duo then embark on a thrilling multiverse adventure, switching between realities to find Jason 1's original one.
When Jason 1 finally returns to his world, he realizes that the damage is far bigger than he had anticipated.
Every decision that he made after his abduction lead to the creation of another version of himself trying to return to Reality 1.
The series introduces a thrilling multiverse entanglement and its consequences before Jason finally reunites with his wife and son.
