'Paradise' may end with Season 3 but writers of the show might have some bigger plans

'Paradise' is not ending anytime soon. Season 2 finale set the tone for what will be a definitive conclusion to the post-apocalyptic thriller in the upcoming season. However, after Season 3, the series will likely be followed by a spinoff. The update comes from writer John Hoberg. Fans who caught the finale will now know that Link (Thomas Doherty) is the leader of a massive group of people with plans to storm the bunker. The finale touches upon how he reunites the survivors after the apocalyptic event. As it turns out, the identity of the mysterious Alex was also revealed, with the entity introduced as a highly advanced AI supercomputer during the final faceoff between Samantha 'Sinatra' Redmond (Julianne Nicholson) and Xavier (Sterling K. Brown).
Speaking to Parade, Hoberg believed that the hit Hulu series has enough plotlines to spawn a spinoff. The writer believed that if Link were seen as the central character who shut down the nuclear reactors, there was a story to be explored. "I feel like whether it’s a prequel or something, I don’t know… I got really into the guys; we called them ‘Cancer Cowboys,’ and we had this huge backstory for them, and it’s Link’s crew, and it’s what they were doing, going around right after ‘The Day’ and trying to safely shut down nuclear reactors," Joberg said. "Because if they can survive, which you realize Cal gave them that opportunity, if nuclear reactors are blowing up everywhere, it’s not going to be a survivable country."
Season 3 is expected to focus more on Link's past, including his role in creating Alex and whether he is indeed Sinatra's son. According to reports, the series will end with a third installment, and if anything is left uncovered, it will leave room for a spinoff. Moreover, much of the decision about another series centered around the characters, and the audience’s reaction to the Season 2 finale and Season 3, leading Hulu to sign off on a new project. It is worth noting that Hoberg and creator Dan Fogelman have also maintained that the series would have to end in three seasons.
This effectively means little to no hope for a fourth season. At the time of writing, there is no set date for when 'Paradise' Season 3 will release. It is safe to say it will be at least another year before a Season 3 premiere. With Seasons 1 and 2 releasing between January and February windows in 2025 and this year, the eight-episode final season might likely see a 2027 release with the same window. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Hulu.
