Steve Burton shares major update on Jason Morgan's 'General Hospital' future after hiatus
Steve Burton's Jason Morgan is a popular character on 'General Hospital'. Despite his status as a prominent player, Morgan has been going through a rough patch on the show, especially after he was accused of shooting WSB Agent Cullum, played by Andrew Hawkes, and taken into custody by the WSB. The March 25 episode of 'General Hospital' previously aired saw Morgan being taken away to an undisclosed location by the WSB. Morgan's compatriots, including Danny and Britt, weren't able to do anything to help his situation and watched on rather helplessly as he was being taken away. Since then, the question has remained whether Burton would return to the show anytime soon.
Burton, on the other hand, recently shared that his absence from the ABC show is all but temporary and that the audience need not despair, as he will return soon. Burton opened up about his return in a recent episode of the 'That's Awesome' podcast, which he co-hosts with Bradford Anderson. While discussing the most frequently asked questions actors encounter while traveling across the country, Burton remarked that Jason's return to Port Charles currently reigns supreme. Burton revealed, "Yes, I am coming back to the show. I start in June, so I’ll be back for sure." (Timestamp: 14:43)
Earlier this year, in March, Burton announced he would be taking a short hiatus from the ABC show to spend more time with his family, including his wife, Michelle Lundstrom. The couple shares two daughters from Lundstrom's previous marriage, in addition to Burton's own children, Jack, Makena, and Brooklyn. Taking to his Instagram page, Burton had written, "I’m newly married and looking forward to spending some quality time with my family. I’m grateful for all the support and will be back this summer."
Apart from the speculation surrounding Burton's return to 'General Hospital,' another area of interest is the nature of his character arc once he returns. According to a report by Soap Opera Digest, Burton had previously speculated that Sonny might approach Rick to bring his character home, "I don’t know the [current] dynamic. I don’t know anything about Ric. I don’t know anything about their relationship, if Sonny and Ric are damaged. I’m not sure if Ric has reformed at all. (But) I like the idea, as Steve. I like it, because I like Rick (Hearst). And especially when I come back, it’s going to be a problem like it used to be in the old days. So, I think that’s pretty cool." In any case, a lot rides on the exact location of Burton's incarceration as well, and whether he shall attempt to escape from prison.
