Jim Carrey quickly woke up the Internet with his remarks on WIll Smith but he soon got on the wrong side of Smith's fans who got hold of an old video

Jim Carrey ripped apart Hollywood following the Will Smith-Chris Rock fiasco dubbing it “spineless” for giving a standing ovation to the actor after he won Best Actor for ‘King Richard’. The legendary comedian in an interview on 'CBS This Morning' stated that he was “sickened by the standing ovation” adding that Will Smith should have been jailed after punching Chris Rock on stage.
 
Jim Carrey quickly broke the Internet with his remarks but he soon got on the wrong side after the fans of Will Smith got hold of an old video where the comedian is seen forcibly kissing then 19-year-old Alicia Silverstone while accepting the award for best comedic performance for ‘Cable Guy’ at 1997 MTV Movie Awards. Social media users dragged him brutally and asked him to shut his mouth when he himself assaulted a teenager on stage.

Jim Carry faces heat over old clip of kissing Alicia Silverstone

The video posted on the Instagram account of Velvet Coke sees Jim Carrey waking on the stage of the 1997 MTV Movie Awards and leaning into kissing Alicia Silverstone leaving her stunned at the moment before he accepted the award from her. They captioned the video as “Alicia Silverstone got a surprise grab-and-smooch by Jim Carrey at the 1997 MTV Movie Awards when she presented the Best Comedic Performance award to Carrey. Carrey apologized to her backstage after realizing that she felt very humiliated.”
 
Many on Twitter bashed him and wondered why no one till date made an issue out of it. A few others mocked him for giving an opinion on Will Smith’s slapgate controversy when he himself was at fault. On the other hand, Jim Carrey on Will Smith’s controversy stated, “I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it just really felt like this is a really clear indication that we’re not the cool club anymore." Smith should have been jailed after punching Rock on stage, according to Carrey, but the comedian chose not to press charges.
 
Carrey continued that “He didn’t want the hassle. I’d have announced this morning that I was suing Will for 200 million dollars because that video is going to be there forever, it’s going to be ubiquitous. That insult is going to last a very long time. If you want to yell from the audience and disapprove or show disapproval or say something on Twitter, whatever. You do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.”

‘Best if he had kept his mouth shut’

Talking about Jim Carrey’s old clip, one user stated, “Jim Carrey is bold...didnt he kiss Alicia Silverstone on stage without consent and she said she felt humiliated?” Another shared, “Jim Carrey tried to French kiss Will Smith at the MTV movie awards and he kissed Alicia Silverstone without her consent at the same award show. So he assaulted two people in one night and no body said a word. He should be minding his own business.” One added, “I remember watching this as a teen and I wondered why @JimCarrey  forced a kiss upon Alicia Silverstone when she clearly didn’t want it. I didn’t learn until years later that this was sexual assault. I was sickened then and I’m sickened now.”
 
The next one shared, “I was just about to be done with this subject then ran across a video of Jim Carrey sexually assaulting a then 19yr old Alicia Silverstone at an award show. Hollywood is full of hypocrites. Shame on@JimCarrey and @GayleKing sure didn't bring this up huh? Meanwhile, one user tweeted, “It’s funny to watch these famous men with their own violent histories condemn Will Smith. Alex Baldwin assaulted a photographer. Jim Carrey assaulted Alicia Silverstone (on stage in front of millions of people). Kareem used to punch folks and his son attempted to murder someone.” Another shared, “@JimCarrey you sexually assaulted Alicia Silverstone on stage - you are the last person to be talking about anybody assaulting anybody.”  And, one concluded, “After seeing the clip of Jim Carrey assaulting Alicia Silverstone at the Oscars it was best if he had kept his mouth shut.”
