'Black Adam' is all set to change how the DC universe works going forward, and the trailer showed just that as the franchise introduced new characters into the mix. When the Justice Society of America finally makes its appearance, they are not necessarily comic-accurate. For starters, there is no Hawkgirl as part of the plan, quashing all questions of whether she will appear in the film. Dwayne Johnson, who plays take titular character Teth-Adam, and also serves as the executive producer of the flick had earlier tweeted about Hawkgirl making the cut, only to be replaced by Maxine Hunkel / Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell)

That said, Aldis Hodge's Hawkman is a pivotal part of the film. Carter Hall, his character serves as the leader of the Justice Society of America, and will have his origins explained in the film. In the comics, Hawkgirl's title was held by Shiera Sanders Hall, Carter's wife, and his immortal soulmate. The duo and their complex pasts were brought down quite a few times in the Silver Age of Comics. Over the years, Hawkgirl has been a constant presence in the Justice League, JSA, and the Birds of Prey.

Hodge, in an interview with The Direct, said the move to not cast Hawkgirl was intentional. "Oh, I actually can't speak to that, her factoring into the film story-wise, because… Yeah, I can't speak to how it would factor into the film aside from the fact that it would still be awesome," he explained. "It would be amazing, but her not being there is intentional. We have room to grow, so however we are allowed to go further and we can explore different avenues, hopefully, that is one of the avenues that we do get to touch on. But everything has a meaning and a purpose."

The official synopsis of the movie reads, "From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action-adventure 'Black Adam'. The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the DC Super Hero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra ('Jungle Cruise'). Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world."

'Black Adam' releases on October 21 in the US.
