A woman diagnosed with terminal cancer who couldn't bear the thought that her husband could meet someone new after her death shot her husband before turning the gun on herself.

Last month, 38-year-old Pilaiwan Kimaphan was diagnosed with a nasal and sinus cancer in Chachoengsao, Thailand. Authorities found her lying in a pool of blood beside her 43-year-old husband Montree, on Friday, November 15, morning. She reportedly had a bullet hole in her right temple.

Nearby residents alerted the police after they heard gunshots from the home, before responding officers found the husband with a bullet wound on his forehead but still breathing. They immediately rushed him to a hospital, where he currently remains on life support.

According to neighbors, Pilaiwan, who was struggling with her cancer diagnosis, feared that her popular husband would find someone new after she died. Montree was reportedly the village chief who "everybody liked", one neighbor said.

"Montree was very popular but he loved his family and he looked after his wife," said the neighbor, identified as Natwarin. "Pilaiwan was very ill and she had become very thin. She could not do a lot and was worried he would find another woman, because he is handsome and has many friends."

Upon their arrival at the residence, police noticed a bullet hole in one of the windows which had emerged from the .38 pistol the wife had used.

Speaking to authorities, the couple's oldest son recounted his shock when he received a suicide message from his mother.

"They were a great couple and always cared for me and my brothers," he said. "I did not expect it when she sent me a message saying 'We are so sorry for this, but mum and dad could not carry on anymore. I was so tired. I am sorry'."

"Recently, my mother also kept telling me and my brother to take care of each other," he added.

"From the evidence from neighbors, we know that the village chief's wife had just been diagnosed with a nasal and sinus cancer which had caused a gloomy atmosphere in the house," Police captain Montree Rodpranee said.

"We believe that she might have wanted to end their suffering, so she shot her husband first and then herself. We will need to interview the husband if he regains consciousness to confirm the reason behind the shooting."
