JJ Vallow's grandparents question Judge Steven Boyce's decision of Lori Vallow not facing the death penalty

MADISON COUNTY, IDAHO: JJ Vallow's grandparents have now compared the case of Lori Vallow to Casey Anthony. As the trial is about to begin on April 3, it was declared by Judge Steven Boyce that she will not face the death penalty. This decision has now been questioned by JJ’s grandparents Larry Woodcock and his wife, Kay.

In a similar case, Anthony was charged in the missing case of her daughter Caylee Anthony. She was found guilty of four misdemeanor counts of lying to police, and Judge Belvin Perry Jr sentenced her to four years in prison, one year for each count. Though a grand jury initially indicted her on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and four counts of providing false information to police.

What is the comparison between the duo?

Lori and her husband, Chad Daybell, have been charged with murder in connection with the deaths of her children JJ Vallow, seven, and Tylee Ryan. The duo has also been charged in connection with the death of Chad's late wife, Tamm. Kay told News Nation,  "She [Lori] conspired, Chad conspired, and it was like she did it with her own hands. She killed everybody - Tammy, JJ, and Tylee - all three," as per The Sun. When the journalist Ashleigh Banfield drew a similarity to the case of Casey Anthony, Kay claimed, "Casey Anthony got out." Lori and Chad will be tried differently in the case. The grandparents have spoken after it was declared that she wouldn't be given the death penalty. Prosecutors said they are "disappointed and respectfully disagree with the decision."

Lori's defense attorney Jim Archibald detailed some of the reasons to avoid the death penalty. “Media saturation, multiple violations by the government, the government’s knowledge of my client’s mental health, and the practical standpoint that Idaho has been trying to kill people on death row and hasn’t been able to do it because the Idaho Department of Correction can’t get chemicals to kill people,” Archibald argued. The duo was set to trial together until judge Boyce severed the two cases on March 2. Lori wanted a speedy trial. However, Chadbell's attorney requested more time to prepare for their defense. With the recent declaration, she will now face a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. 

'They must blame prosecution'

The Internet quickly reacted to the grandparent's reaction. A user said, " I wish she would have explained what a death qualified jurist was I’ve never heard that of that. I hope this family finds peace." "They must blame prosecution," wrote a user. "Shanann Watts family got the choice to not go for the death penalty. Larry & Kay should've had the same consideration of going for it.," claimed a user. "I feel so sorry for the families of all the victims, this trial is evolving into a circus rather than the facts and evidence being bought to light. I tried listening to the audio the other day, but really struggled with it. #StayStrong to the families," noted another.

"They should be upset with the prosecution for putting the Court in that position. Every trial lawyer knows how extremely important those disclosure deadlines are," said a user. "I understand their frustration. I will say though that I find something extremely satisfying abt her spending rest of her miserable days in that concrete cell w/ppl just like her. No comforts, no support. NO APPEAL," mentioned another. "My heart goes out to them both," stated another.
