Donald Trump’s lackluster response to the chaos in Capitol seems to have wreaked havoc in his own administration, as some of his and Melania Trump’s top aides are speculated to be handing out their resignations after watching riots and protests in Washington, D.C.

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, whose recent position was as the chief of staff for Melania Trump, is the first one to publicly resign. She took to Twitter today, January 6, to share her farewell tweet, in which she’s seen praising the FLOTUS only while thanking the White House for allowing her to be a part of “many accomplishments”.

She wrote in her tweet, “It has been an honor to serve the country in the @WhiteHouse. I am very proud to have been a part of @FLOTUS @MELANIATRUMP mission to help children everywhere, & proud of the many accomplishments of this Administration. Signing off now – you can find me at @OMGrisham"

Besides Grisham, White House social secretary Anna Cristina "Rickie" Niceta and White House Press aide Sarah Matthews have also resigned. Word has it that several top aides, including national security adviser Robert O'Brien, will also quit their positions.

Even though Grisham did not cite the reason for her resignation, her tweet about leaving Trump's administration has been met with criticism as many have asked why she didn't do this "four years ago".

One social media user tweeted, "So funny worst Flotus she just wasted space in the white hour for the last four years." Another added, "You should have done this long ago! You are VERY LUCKY you were not hurt! I hope you weren't sick. Remember what happened to the other Stephanie. Be blessed " Adding to the base tweets another wrote, "Blah Blah Complicit. Wants "credit for resigning. Wants to lavish love on the trumps."

A look at Stephanie Grisham's time in the White House

Grisham was first appointed as Tump's third press secretary in May 2019. She also took the role of White House communications director, while serving as the same for the first lady. However, she was the press secretary for less than a year and reportedly "never once held an on-camera press briefing", a standard procedure for her role.

During her time as the communications director, she made headlines for several disagreements with the newly appointed chief of staff Mark Meadows. In April 2020, she was replaced with Kayleigh McEnany as press secretary and appointed as the first lady's chief of staff. She served in the position until she resigned in the wake of the Capitol riots.
