Why did Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes split? ‘One Tree Hill’ actress files for divorce
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes ended their marriage after just over a year. The ‘One Tree Hill’ star, 41, filed for divorce from the entrepreneur on Friday in Los Angeles, People reported. The former couple met through their mutual passion for community service and became friends for 10 years before getting engaged in August 2020.
They tied the knot in June 2022 at a low-key ceremony in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Hughes is from. The former pair at the time shared sweet posts on respective Instagram handles, where they shared photos from their wedding day and their proposal on a boat in Lake Como, Italy.
Why did Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes split?
The split comes seven weeks after Bush celebrated their wedding anniversary in an Instagram post, in a now apparently deleted Instagram post, Bush wrote, “Today marks 365 days of calling you ‘husband.’ Best decision of my life. It still feels just like this. Ecstatic. Running toward the future, grinning and laughing, together. I love you, my favorite. Happy Anniversary .” Hughes replied: “You are my favorite person on this planet. I love you endlessly.”
However, things took a turn for the worse when Bush contracted a virus that forced her to leave her West End play ‘2:22 A Ghost Story’ early in July. She revealed that she had to seek medical attention in both London and America and was advised to stop performing and return to her home country.
'I’ve been advised by my medical team in London & America to stop performing'
"After weeks of being intermittently pulled off stage & visiting multiple doctors, specialists, & an all nighter in the ER, I’ve been advised by my medical team in London & America to stop performing in order to get this under control & to do so in the country where I reside under the care of my own doctors," she wrote in a lengthy post on Instagram on July 21. "I’m crushed to not be able to finish my run, to have to leave my incredible cast mates & company & to miss the nights on stage with our audiences," she continued.

"I’m sad. Happy. Immensely grateful. There is no greater creative experience than the stage. I miss it madly. I love it deeply. I cannot wait for the next one," she further added.
'Sophia and Grant were friends for 10 years and bonded during COVID'
One source told the publication that the split was amicable and that they remain good friends and partners in their nonprofit organization. “Sophia and Grant were friends for 10 years and bonded during COVID through their love of community service,” the source said. “They continue to run their nonprofit together and remain good friends.” This was Bush’s second marriage after she divorced her ‘One Tree Hill’ co-star Chad Michael Murray in 2006 after less than a year of marriage. She has since dated actors Austin Nichols, James Lafferty, and Jesse Lee Soffer.
