Why did Perfect Match's Micah Lussier and Paul Peden split? Netflix couple's reconciliation hangs in the balance
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: As Micah Lussier and Paul Peden spent more time together, spectators could tell that they were not compatible. Despite their efforts to overcome obstacles, Micah and Paul did not end up together after 'Love is Blind' Season 4.
During their 'Love Is Blind' nuptials, Micah disclosed that she and fiancé Paul's journey to the altar had been "anything but normal." Complications arose as they became entangled in romantic triangles with Kwame Appiah and Irina Solomonova while still in the pods.
Additionally, they didn't agree on living arrangements, and Shelby, her closest friend, made it clear that she was "not with" their relationship going forward. So, in the 'Love Is Blind' Season 4 conclusion, despite their mutual love and shared ideals, Micah and Paul did not tie the knot.
Micah stated that giving Paul the chance to respond first was the greatest thing she could do for them, even though their wedding officiant wanted her to disclose her choice first. His reply? "I love you, but I don’t think that we can choose each other right now. I think that we’re not there." Micah described herself as "broken" after the separation, and said she was prepared to say "yes" to Paul.
In the epilogue, Micah stated, "I wanted Paul to give his answer first because I knew that was the only thing that I needed in order to say ‘I do’ — for him to show me that he was gonna choose me, and he didn’t." Micah added, "If Paul would have wanted to marry me, 100% I would have said, ‘I do.’ It’s an easy decision."
'Love is Blind' Season 4 star Micah Lussier learned about ex Paul Peden's new romance
The relationship between Micah and Paul's ex-partner remains unclear. In the 2023 'After the Altar' special, the infrequent couple was still working out their differences a year after Paul turned down Micah at the altar in season 4 of 'Love Is Blind.'
When Micah and Paul's mother, Liz, first met on camera, it was evident from their cordial conversation that Liz was eager to see her son renew their romance. Micah said, "Me and Liz talk every single day," adding that Liz texted her frequently.
"I hear from her often and honestly, it's really welcome… The last thing I want is for Paul to feel uncomfortable, but having a friendship with Liz makes me feel really validated in the love that Paul and I had. Being able to keep that friendship has meant a lot."
Liz seemed to have no problem putting her son under the bus, cheerfully proclaiming that "boys are stupid," and telling Micah, "Whatever he thinks, you are my friend, and I love you, and we're always going to have. Whatever issue Paul may or may not have, that's on him."
However, Liz revealed to Micah that Paul was "talking to someone." "It's hard to hear, especially when I haven't moved on yet," Micah says of her ex's prospective new romance.
"The smile that I saw through Paul when he was with you, that's been unmatched," Liz assured Micah, joking, "I'll break her kneecaps." Micah revealed that she and Paul still have "lingering feelings" for each other.
'Love is Blind' Season 4 star Micah Lussier ceased contact with Paul Peden
Micah sat Paul down and told him that, despite their new friendship, their open communication was "really confusing" and the news of the romance "felt like a shock."
"I don't blame you for feeling that way," Paul explained. "I felt that way at multiple points where I felt like you were moving on in your life," Paul added.
And, while Paul seemed to believe it was okay to stay in touch with Micah, she was ready to move on. "I want the best for you. I think you're amazing. I think you're the best person ever," she informed him.
Micah noted, "The relationship was so good. I still love you and support you, and want the best for you, but I don't really feel like I'm ready to be friends... I think just in terms of moving forward, it's something I absolutely need to protect my own heart."
After Micah told him she was breaking off contact with him for the time being, Paul remarked, "I think we'll see each other down the road." Paul still follows Micah on Instagram, but she no longer follows him.
Are 'Love is Blind' Season 4 stars Micah Lussier and Paul Peden still single?
A month after filming the 'After the Altar' special in April 2023, Paul went public on Instagram with his current girlfriend, Geneva Dunham. Since then, it appears that the couple has been doing well.
Micah is set to feature in the second season of 'Perfect Match' which will be released on Netflix on June 7. It is safe to assume that the Netflix star is currently single and is looking to settle down, just like her ex.
