With ‘The Walking Dead’ coming to an end with Season 11, creators have already announced that the world of ‘TWD’ will continue to enthrall viewers with a couple of spin-off shows. In 2020, it was announced that a new spin-off series focusing on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) will be arriving on AMC after the original show comes to an end. But it seems that one of the most important characters from the ‘TWD’ universe has decided to depart from the walker-infested hellscape.

AMC’s plan of expanding the ‘The Walking Dead’ universe took a major jolt when it was reported that long-time star Melissa McBride has decided to exit the upcoming spin-off series. However, a few moments the news of McBride’s exit was confirmed by AMC and she will no longer lead the spin-off with her long-time friend and co-star Norman Reedus.

Why did Melissa McBride leave Daryl and Carol's spin-off?

This is not the first time that a character from ‘The Walking Dead’ universe has exited the show. If you are watching the eleventh and final season of the AMC, then you’ll realize that Melissa and Norman are the only two actors remaining from the show’s original Season 1 cast.

But it does come as a shock that Melissa exited a series in which she was supposed to be the lead star. According to TV Line, the show was about to start filming in Europe and it was impossible for her to relocate due to some reasons. The AMC representative confirmed that relocating to Europe became “logistically untenable” for the actress and that’s why she has decided to exit the show.

“Unfortunately, she is no longer able to participate in the previously announced spin-off focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe this summer and premiere next year. Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time,” TV Line quoted the AMC representative saying. The representative also assured fans that the ‘TWD’ universe will continue to grow in “interesting ways” and the network hopes to work with Melissa again in the future.

The Carol and Daryl spin-off series is among several ‘The Walking Dead’ projects that are currently in production. A series, titled 'Isle of the Dead', revolving around Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) has also been announced and will be set in New York. Other from that, an anthology series titled ‘Tale of the Walking Dead’ is also in the works.

Nevertheless, Melissa’s exit from the spin-off show is really upsetting. She has been a part of ‘The Walking Dead’ universe from the beginning and seeing her go from the project that people were really excited about is only going to break their hearts. Let’s hope, we get to see Carol once again.
