The Walking Dead’ Season 11 had a strong premiere episode and gave us an idea of how the makers are trying to move forward with the series. With Season 11 being the show’s final season, the makers will be hoping to provide a satisfying end for the viewers.

The premiere saw the protagonists walking inside a subway tunnel, with multiple walkers closing in on them as they head towards Meridian. During the last moments of the episode, we saw Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) choosing not to help Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) climb up on a train car. Eventually, she loses her grip and falls down on the ground where she is piled on by a group of undead. The cliffhanger ending of the first episode made everyone excited for what was about to come.

So, the second part of the premiere starts with a big revelation that Maggie has somehow survived the fall and the walkers. She was piled on by the walkers but managed to sneak beneath the subway car. In reality, it was just one walker down and she was able to dodge him by putting a bullet in its head. A small group of zombies heads her way, but she has been trained for such moments, so she fights them all and manages to evade the dangerous situation by getting away from them and reaching the train car safely.

When Negan is interrogated about Maggie, he says, “She was right behind me.” The group believes that she is no more and plans to move ahead. Just then, Maggie crawls up onto the train and reunites with the group. However, the cracks are getting bigger in the group. Maggie says no to rescuing Gage (Jackson Pace) from another train car and he ends up dying at the hands of the walkers. The entire group turns against Maggie and Negan feels quite happy about it.

Meanwhile, the most interesting aspect of the episode comes when Daryl finds a letter in the subway and the kind of art he sees on the subway tunnels. One of the graffiti says, “If there was a God, he will have to beg for my forgiveness.”

Daryl has finally found Dog and reached at the nick of time to help Maggie and the group. They are ambushed by a wave of zombies. In a classic Daryl way, he stuffs up a grenade into the mouth of a zombie and we see all the zombies exploding into pieces. They eventually leave the train tunnels and head out into the darkness of the outside world once again.

And this is when we finally meet the group of people that we always wanted to see – The Reapers.

Both parts of the premiere – ‘Acheron 1’ and ‘Acheron 2’ – have perfectly set up for a banger of a final season. The introduction of the masked group called The Reapers will give the series the much-needed depth and the new characters seem to be really brutal. The nature of content in the premiere episodes varies from heavy to light and to be honest, the approach is working for the makers.

The season has started in the right direction and we hope it is concluded with a bang.
