Why did Kelly Osbourne swear at Ryan Seacrest on FOX TV? Ken Jeong's special 'Gollum' request cracks up viewers
New Year's Eve is a special time for technical difficulties in the wonders of live television and hosts from every major channel crowding in on Times Square getting ready to countdown the New Year. As Kelly Osbourne reports live for Fox's 'New Year's Eve Roast & Toast 2021' with Ken Jeong and Joel McHale, Ryan Seacrest did the same for ABC, wth both of them sharing space at a socially distanced Times Square, leading to a little crossover mischief encouraged by Jeong and McHale themselves.
From the start, McHale and Jeong, who were hosting in a studio, could overhear other people and announcements whenever they cut away to Osbourne live from Times Square. Jeong tried to get Osbourne to yell at Seacrest, a request she largely ignored, until time edged closer to midnight, where both hosts egged Osbourne on to call Ryan "Gollum" Seacrest and tell him to return the ring to Mordor. Taking even the hosts by surprise, Osbourne did so, adding a few swears of her own into the message, much to the amusement of the fans as she was bleeped out.
For many fans, it was definitely the highlight of the night. "New Year’s Eve shows are terrible but the “Gollum Seacrest Incident” made this boring drudgery worth it," wrote one. "OMG @KellyOsbourne on #NYEonFOX dropping her profanity filter while yelling at Ryan Seacrest to return the ring to Mordor was EVERYTHING. So glad I survived 2020 to see that," wrote this fan. "Thank you @joelmchale and @kenjeong for making my night a million times better by making @KellyOsbourne get bleeped out on live tv and sending @RyanSeacrest back to Mordor," wrote another.

Other fans were more impressed with the censor, who managed to bleep her out on live TV before any actual swearing could be heard by viewers. "The person who has the job of bleeping words for live TV does an amazing job for someone who doesn’t anything 99% of the time. That 1% of the time they are ON IT" wrote a fan. "Joel McHale just convinced Kelly Osbourne to yell at Ryan Seacrest (on another network) to put the ring in the fiery pit of Mordor. And she cussed while doing it. Amazing work, here," wrote another.
