NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Over the years, there have been a lot of scandalous celebrity romances. However, one of the most renowned relationships that is still spoken about today is Whoopi Goldberg's relationship with Ted Danson.

Although Goldberg has made obvious the fact that she is "much happier" on her own and has absolutely no desire to share her life with someone ever again, 'The View' host is undoubtedly no stranger to love.

But in recent years, Goldberg has made it evident that she "doesn't want to live with anybody" and that being single is her personal choice, as per Daily Mail.

Whoopi Goldberg’s short and stormy relationship with Ted Danson

Goldberg's romantic journey has garnered attention due to her history, which includes three marriages and prominent relationships with celebrities like Timothy Dalton and Danson. She even had a live-in boyfriend as recently as 2000.

Between her second and third marriages, 'The View' host engaged in a high-profile romance with Danson, who was then engaged to Cassandra “Casey” Coates.

Goldberg and Danson began a contentious relationship in the 1990s that not only generated controversy in the public but also influenced his expensive divorce in 1993.

The two first connected in 1988 on the well-known late-night talk show 'Arsenio Hall,' with Danson describing Goldberg as "a sexy, funny woman." They developed a strong connection after getting to know one another, which they kept up for a while.

However, when they started dating while filming their movie 'Made in America' in 1992, Goldberg and Danson's relationship took a romantic turn.

Danson and Goldberg initially kept their relationship a secret as he was already married to his second wife, Coates, at the time. But the media and Coates learned of the co-star's sensational romance very quickly after they started dating.

The romance led to an expensive divorce

Danson and Goldberg started an affair that quickly went public and ultimately caused his highly expensive divorce; as there was no prenuptial agreement, the actor is said to have ended up owing his ex-wife $30 million.

Coates and Danson were married for 16 years before Coates discovered that Danson and Goldberg were having an affair.

The infidelity was unquestionably Coates' final straw in their already failing marriage. It seems that a number of events contributed to the breakdown of Coates and Danson's marriage.

Ted Danson was criticized for wearing blackface

Father-of-two Danson faced criticism the same year as his divorce for his performance in blackface and use of numerous racial insults during a comic roast at the Friars Club in celebration of Goldberg.

Later, Goldberg defended the sketch and admitted that she had contributed to most of the writing, directing Danson to the makeup artist who had painted his face as a social commentary.

The monologue, according to a transcript in Spy Magazine, was about a time when Danson brought Goldberg to visit his "stuffy and out-of-touch" parents and discovered that "[she] fit right in. After she did the laundry and washed the dishes…"

The outcry was intense, despite the pair's defense that the act was a send-up of their own experiences with racist views and tabloid headlines. Soon after, Danson and Goldberg made an announcement about their separation.

Ted Danson allegedly dumped Whoopi Goldberg because his parents disapproved

Danson acknowledged to NPR many years later that the relationship had already broken down at the time of the debate. However, the duo didn't speak publicly about it until November, which led many to believe the scandal-making fiasco was the reason.

The National Enquirer, meanwhile, claimed that Danson's parents were responsible for the split in a 2013 look back at the breakup.

According to the report, "They made plans to wed as soon as he could get a divorce, but under pressure from his parents, he dumped Whoopi."

According to The Things, at the time, it was alleged that the 'Cheers' actor's parents were disappointed in him for ending his marriage and thought he was going through "a midlife crisis."

Whoopi Goldberg had 'really painful' breakup with Ted Danson

Whoopi allegedly described the separation to Closer magazine years later, saying, "It was really painful, and it was very public. And the loss of his friendship hurts a great deal. We can never go and have a soda, anywhere. I'm friends with almost every man I've gone out with, except this man."

Danson went on to marry 'Pontiac Moon' actress Mary Steenburgen in October 1995, while Goldberg had a short love affair with orthodontist Jeffrey Cohen in 1995.
