FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA: In Fargo, North Dakota, a shooter opened fire on a crowded roadway on Friday afternoon, July 14, killing one police officer and gravely injuring two more, according to police. In the Friday morning incident, Fargo police officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

According to a statement released by the police on Saturday, a 25-year-old lady was also shot and critically injured. The police did not disclose the manner of her shooting. Jake Wallin, 23, who had only been sworn in as an officer in April, was the officer who was slain, according to Fargo police. He was also a member of the Minnesota Army National Guard, he served.

About injured officers 

The two injured officers were named April newcomers Tyler Hawes and Andrew Dotas, both of whom had been in the department for six years. According to the authorities, Dotas and Hawes were both hospitalized on Saturday in critical but stable condition, as reported by CBS News.

Zachary Robinson, a seven-year department veteran, was the officer who shot and killed the suspect. According to officials, Robinson was Wallin's training officer at the time of the incident.

Mohamad Barakat, a Fargo resident who is 37 years old, was named as the suspect. Police added that after being brought to a hospital, he died. Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski stated during a press conference on Saturday that the suspect fired for "no known reason at all."

Zibolski said, "This was a heinous and unthinkable act of aggression against our officers and against our community." He added, "That type of behavior obviously cannot stand."

Attorney General Drew Wrigley of North Dakota stated there had been a "shooting incident" and that the state's Bureau of Criminal Investigation was collaborating with local, state, and federal law enforcement. He did not release any other information.

'This is very difficult on all of us..'

Schildberger said Friday evening, "We sincerely are asking for your patience and our community's patience and understanding as the Fargo Police Department works through this incident." He added, "This is very difficult on all of us, We appreciate all the messages from the community that have been given to us in support of our officers."

According to many witnesses, a male started shooting at the police officers before being shot by other cops. Soon after, police focused on a neighborhood approximately two miles away, evacuated the occupants, and began gathering what they claimed to be relevant evidence in relation to the shooting, as per reports.
