CLAY COUNTY, FLORIDA: Adam Simjee, a 22-year-old man was murdered by an Oklahoma woman named Yasmine Marie Adel Hider who pleaded guilty to the charges in court on Wednesday, October 4.
The 21-year-old woman admittedly faked car trouble before she killed the Florida college student who attempted to help her while he was hiking with his girlfriend Mikayla Paulus in Alabama’s Talladega National Forest, reports Law and Crime.
How many years will Yasmine Hider face in prison?
The 21-year-old woman who fatally shot Simjee on August 14, 2022, will face 35 years in prison following her sentencing on January 4, 2024.
The tragic incident took place in the Cheaha State Park when Hider faked car trouble to rob.
Paulus identified Hider as Simjee's murderer after law enforcement authorities received a 911 call about a shooting incident in the forest.
"Upon arrival, agents observed a white male victim, Victim #1, lying dead from one gunshot wound to the abdomen. The killer, Yasmine Marie Adel HIDER, a black female, was seated several feet away against a fallen pine tree with four gunshot wounds, three to the abdomen and one to the upper right leg," read Hider's plea deal with the prosecutors.
"Victim #1’s girlfriend, a white female, Victim #2, had witnessed the crime and was being comforted by responding officers. Victim #2 pointed at HIDER and told the responding officers, 'she shot him.'"
Investigators revealed that Hider was aware that she would be booked into prison and at the time she asked police how long her time in prison would be.
"Hider stated to the responding officers that she and her family lived in the woods, and she was asking for a ride to get food. Hider asked the officers, 'I’m going to do time, right? I just want to know how much time?' This was recorded by the agent’s body cam," read the court document.
Speaking to investigators at the time, Paulus said that she and her boyfriend were "traveling and sleeping in Victim #1’s 2010 white Chevrolet Uplander van" and "looking for waterfalls in Cheaha State Park when Hider flagged the couple down and said she needed help with her broken down vehicle, a blue XB Scion, which was located about an eighth of a mile away."
"Victim #1 and Victim #2 followed HIDER down a dirt road to the Scion," the document continued.
The killer and another female faked the car trouble to rob them. When Simjee attempted to jump-start their vehicle, Hider ordered the couple to "empty their pockets and to walk further into the woods," after she pulled out a gun.
"She cocked her gun and started firing, and Victim # 1 returned fire simultaneously while falling to the ground," stated the court documents.
"While on the ground, Victim #1 said, 'You shot me,’ and fired one last time at Hider. After the shooting stopped, Hider said, 'Why did you shoot? It wasn’t supposed to be like this.'" Shortly, Simjee succumbed to his injuries.
