'Road House': Cast and character guide to Prime Video's remake of Patrick Swayze's cult classic
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 2024 remake of 'Road House' surprisingly lives up to the 80s cult classic, featuring new characters while maintaining the original story's essence.
Directed by Doug Liman, 'Road House' will be airing on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, March 21. Like the Patrick Swayze version, it's an action-packed film drawing inspiration from Western movie tropes.
Unlike the original, which received mixed reviews, the 2024 version has been well-received, thanks largely to the strong performances of its cast.
Similar to the earlier adaptation, the movie follows bouncer Dalton leading a security crew at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys. Using his ex-UFC fighter skills, Dalton helps his colleagues while facing off against the villainous Ben Brandt and his dangerous associate, Knox.
Although the plot remains faithful to the original, the remake's success lies in the chemistry among its diverse cast of experienced actors and newcomers. This makes the 'Road House' remake stand out in the realm of action films.
Here's a cast and character guide to help you know who's who in 'Road House'.

Jake Gyllenhaal, a Hollywood veteran, is undoubtedly the biggest name attached to 'Road House'.
Known for his roles in acclaimed movies like 'Brokeback Mountain,' 'Zodiac,' 'Nightcrawler,' and 'Prisoners,' Gyllenhaal has also tackled physically demanding action roles.
Elwood Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) is portrayed as a charismatic yet dangerous figure, serving as the enigmatic guardian of the titular roadhouse in 'Road House'.
Unlike the original film, this remake provides a clearer backstory for Dalton, revealing him as an ex-UFC fighter. Additionally, Dalton showcases humor by engaging in verbal sparring with adversaries before resorting to physical confrontation.
Daniela Melchior as Ellie

Melchior, originally from Portugal, has swiftly risen as a promising star in Hollywood. Before 'Road House,' she appeared in various notable projects.
Starting with roles in Portuguese films, Melchior gained recognition for her performance in James Gunn's unconventional DC movie, 'The Suicide Squad', where she portrayed the character Ratcatcher 2.
In 'Road House', Ellie, portrayed by Melchior, takes over Kelly Lynch's character from the original film. Ellie is introduced as a doctor who encounters Dalton following a brawl at the roadhouse.
Despite their age difference, she becomes Dalton's main love interest. However, she disapproves of his violent tactics, especially as tensions rise.
Ellie is portrayed as a wise character, cautioning Dalton about the dangers he faces as he confronts Brandt and his henchmen.
Conor McGregor as Knox

In 'Road House', Conor McGregor makes his acting debut. As one of the most well-known athletes globally, McGregor's transition to performance isn't surprising given his UFC career.
Known as The Notorious, McGregor's theatricality was a trademark in his fighting days. Despite often being controversial, his behavior served as an ideal audition tape for his role as Knox.
Although Knox (Conor McGregor) stands out as a notable villain in 'Road House', he serves as a mere henchman.
Despite his subordinate position, he is one of the few characters capable of matching Dalton's strength and isn't hesitant to engage in violence.
Knox's unpredictability and danger make him a formidable force in the film as he carries out Brandt's orders, played by Billy Magnussen.
Jessica Williams as Frankie

Los Angeles native Jessica Williams began her career as a correspondent on Comedy Central's acclaimed show 'The Daily Show.' Since then, she has become a thriving actress in both movies and television.
Frankie (Jessica Williams), the owner of the main Roadhouse bar, reaches out to Dalton out of concern for her business's future.
She's alarmed by unruly customers disrupting the peace, prompting her to consider drastic measures. Despite her ongoing land dispute with Ben Brandt, Frankie underestimates the extent of his ruthlessness.
Lukas Gage as Billy

Lukas Gage, hailing from San Diego, is making waves in Hollywood as a rising star, particularly known for his TV roles rather than movies. Nonetheless, he boasts a commendable track record in both mediums.
Despite already being employed at the roadhouse upon Dalton's arrival, Billy (Lukas Gage) quickly becomes his protege. Similar to the original film, he joins a fresh team of bouncers, viewing Dalton as a mentor and paternal figure.
With guidance and training, Billy blossoms into a skilled fighter, becoming a crucial ally in the battle against Brandt and Knox.
Billy Magnussen as Ben Brandt

Billy Magnussen has been in the entertainment industry since 2009, amassing a notable list of TV and movie appearances. His breakthrough occurred in the musical comedy 'Into The Woods', but he has since expanded his repertoire across various genres.
While not as flashy as Knox, Ben Brandt (Billy Magnussen) plays a crucial role as the mastermind orchestrating events in 'Road House'.
As a property mogul with plans for Frankie's land, he employs Knox and others to intimidate her. This sets up a showdown with Dalton, despite Brandt's attempts to intimidate him.
