First dates are quite tricky, aren't they? What to wear, what not to wear, preparing yourself mentally, picking the perfect restaurant - or is going to the park a better idea? Whether you are looking for a casual hook-up or a more serious relationship, first dates are important to make a strong first impression. One question that haunts couples on first dates is "who should be paying?"

The answer is never simple. But a self-proclaimed dating 'expert' revealed why she thinks that men should always pay the full bill after a first date.

The woman named Nelly, who goes by the username @ask.nelly, believes that men should always take care of the bill on the first date, especially if it was them that made the first move.

Captioning the video, I SAID WHAT I SAID ☝️ #datingadvice #datingadviceformen #datingadviceforwomen #firstdate', she shared her explanation. "Men should never let a woman pay for a first date because if you're asking a girl out and then going Dutch, it just shows you're cheap."

With 625.1K followers and 9.3 million likes on TikTok, Nelly describes her page as "Confidence, Dating & Vlogs".

Nelly adds in the video that men who refuse to foot the bill on the first date look as if they weren't "raised right" and are "not chivalrous" or are "dating out of their price range".

Nelly continued, "By that [dating out of their price range] I mean you're taking a girl out on a date you can't afford to do, so instead of trying to flex on a nice dinner, you're better off taking her on a picnic in the park."

In addition to that, she also made it clear that those women who seem cool about splitting the bill are actually not really cool about it. "And even the most progressive girls who insist they split it with you and say they don't mind... do mind."

At the end of it, Nelly also had some advice to share with her women followers. "Not because they can't afford it, but because it shows us your character and if you're a girl and you've paid for first dates, I want to tell you that he ain't it sis."

It goes without saying that the video has earned a lot of traction on social media. With over 85.6K views, the video also has received mixed comments.

"As a man that likes to show how much of a provider I am, I'll take a girl to a picnic at the park if I have no money, over dinner at a restaurant," one user commented. "Lol what? It's 2021. Whoever asks the other person out should pay for the date," another said. "I would rather pay for myself. Then there are no 'expectations'," one said.

Some women also chipped in with their thoughts. "Am I the only woman who always either pays for the first date or splits it and would never let a man pay? It makes me uncomfortable when people pay."
