Whenever a new cast member is announced for any of the 'Real Housewives' franchises, fans get all excited and welcome them with open arms. Sadly, the same can't be said for 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' newbie Sanela Diana Jenkins. As soon as it was made official that Jenkins is the new housewife on the block, fans took to Twitter to question her casting choice.

According to a report doing rounds on the internet, the new housewife allegedly has a very dark past. Her connection to several A-list celebrities like Cindy Crawford, George Clooney, The Kardashians, etc, has always been a point of intrigue to the public. So when an unsubstantiated 'blind' submitted on a celebrity gossip forum accused her of running a high-profile sex ring, the public immediately lapped it up. With the announcement of her joining the cast of 'RHOBH' Season 12, looks like fans once again began digging into her past, and are far from pleased with what they discovered.

Who is Sanela Diana Jenkins?

Today Diana Jenkins might be enjoying the lavish life of a Hollywood diva, but the 48-year-old endured a lot of hardships as a former refugee from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Born Sanela Dijana Catic to middle-class Muslim parents in Bosnia, she claims that she had a very happy childhood until the war broke out. After graduating from the University of Sarajevo with a degree in economics and social engineering, Diana was looking forward to a bright career and future. But sadly, her world quickly turned upside down when war broke out between Serbia and Bosnia. The gruesome ethnic war took many Bosnian lives.

In an interview with DailyMail, she recounted, "We had no food and no electricity. My dad and my brother couldn’t get out and my mother wouldn’t leave without them. My dad was begging me to run for my life because I was a girl. War was raging and I was escaping through barricades, walking, buses, whatever I could find. I made it to Croatia and once I was there there were Bosnian refugees everywhere. I was living off charity, off any help I could get. Every day it seemed I would hear my friend had died, my uncle was dead, my first cousin was dead. I would just hear of people dying all the time. Then I lost contact with my parents. I was dead inside."

In 1993, she finally made her way to London. But since she couldn't speak English, her hardships continued. She took up several menial jobs to support herself. Diana was determined to get her parents and brother out of Bosnia. She worked hard and earned a computer science degree from City University. Just as things were beginning to look up for her, she received the news of her brother's death.  "In 1995, I found out that my brother was dead. That was the end of me. That’s when I changed my name to Diana because I wanted not to exist anymore. Because it was unbearable," she told the news outlet.

Following her brother's death, she changed her name to Sanela Diana, it was during this vulnerable time that she crossed paths with Barclays banker Roger Jenkins at the  Barbican gym in the City. "It was perhaps more instant attraction for him than me. He’s a very, very nice man. What people don’t understand, I think, is that Roger really was, you could say, nobody when we met. He was not this very wealthy man. He was my first friend in England really," she revealed. The couple got married in 1999, and share two children together.

Diana and her husband Roger made headlines when she got the Qatar royals to invest a whopping $7.3 billion in the Barclays Bank while the financial institution was going through a rough patch. Diana used her connection with the wife of Sheik Hamad Al-Thani, the prime minister of Qatar, to secure the massive investment. The couple divorced in 2011, following which Diana moved to America and began getting involved in various philanthropic activities. She is currently in a relationship with musician Asher Monroe, and the couple welcomed their child in 2020.

'Room 23' book controversy

In 2006, Diana teamed up with celebrity photographer Deborah Anderson to put together a coffee table book filled with celebrity pictures titled 'Room 23'. "This artistic exploration depicts a year in the life of a Beverly Hills penthouse suite featuring 100 celebrities. Proceeds support human rights projects," states the 'RHOBH' star's website.

But the blind item, which was picked up by gossip site Jezebel in 2012 clamed to reveal the real truth behind 'Room 23' and took the story forward based on the comments of a poster nicknamed Himmmm on the blog Crazy Days and Nights. The outlet also added, "The blind item and Himmmm's comments about Diana Jenkin got picked up by the celebrity gossip LiveJournal forum Oh No They Didn't, but things got even darker and more accusatory in the comments section of that post that the moderators locked it. Supposedly commenters had taken hints dropped by Himmmm in past posts and began making shocking allegations."

Why are fans unhappy over Diana Jenkins being cast on 'RHOBH'?

With these anonymous posts being picked up by some media outlets it shouldn't come as a surprise that the 'RHOBH' fans are not thrilled about her joining the Bravo show. Sadly, the show's trailer didn't do her any favors either, where she can be heard calling herself a 'new villain' in response to Sutton Stracke accusing her of being a 'soulless person'.

An unhappy fan tweeted, "I really don’t understand why is @BravoTV not doing a background check on people my omg!! People like Sanela Diana Jenkins are disgusting and evil!!! #RHOBH." Another fan wondered, "@BravoTV Really scraping the barrel with casting Diana Jenkins and keeping Erika Jaynes classless ass. The real #RHOBH glory days have been long gone?"

Another fan shared, "I’m a little stressed about her addition to the show tbh it feels dark #RHOBH." "Wait..THE Diana Jenkins? Why @Andy? #wtf #rhobh #bravotv #Pedos," questioned a fan. "Lots to say about the new girl Diana Jenkins… very calculated casting choice #RHOBH," expressed a fan

'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Season 12 airs every Wednesday at 8/7c on Bravo.
