Who is Rosanna? Meet the new 'Return to Amish' star who wants to leave because 'all we do is work and sleep'
'Return to Amish' documents the lives of ex-Amish, as they try to navigate and establish their lives outside of the closed community they grew up in. Over the years we have seen many cast members make their transistion from the strict communal Amish lifestyle to embracing life outside in a big city.
Season 6 of 'Return to Amish' features OG cast member Jeremiah Raber and his wife Carmelia Raber making a return, alongside Sabrina High, and her boyfriend Jethro. . Two new cast members have been added to the mix too- Rosanna and Maureen. While Maureen is introduced as recurring cast member Ada's granddaughter, Rosanna is shown as her friend who is eager to leave her Amish life behind. Who is Rosanna?
Living in an Amish community means upholding the many strict norms and rules that the lifestyle entails in order to be closer to God. But not everybody is comfortable living their life following such strict rules. Rosanna is definitely one of the few people in the Amish community who are eager to explore the outside world and live a life free of rules. In the trailer she can be seen explaining why she wants to leave the community. "I want to leave the Amish because really all we do is work and sleep, and we're not allowed to really go out and have fun. We live a strict and simple life to be closer to God."
Although the season 6 trailer introduces Rosanna to us as Maureen's friend, she has another surprising connection to the show. She is former OG cast member Rebecca Schmucker's cousin. So, before she made the big decision of stepping into the outside world she spoke to her cousin. "She (Rebecca) said it'll be hard. It's a really hard decision to make, because you don't get to see your family anymore. You don't get to see your nieces and nephews," she shared.
Life outside the Amish community for Rosanna
Although Rosanna is overwhelmed by the hard decision she amde of leaving everything behind and starting a fresh life outside, she luckily has a whole brand new world filled with adventures waiting on the other side for her. In the trailer, we see Rebecca and Maureen entering an airport for the first time, figuring out how a flush works in the toilets, and she boldly even gets a belly piercing. But it's not all fun and games for Rosanna. She fears being shunned by her parents for leaving the community. "My biggest fear is I’ll get shunned, or my parents won’t talk to me anymore.They’ll just consider me not their child – that’s the biggest part that I’m afraid of.When I leave, nothing will be the same," she reveals.
Things do get a bit difficult for Rosanna on the outside, when she gets into a huge fight with her friend Maureen. The two girls fight over Maureen's new relationship. While Maureen believes that Rosanna is jealous of her new relationship, Rosanna thinks that her friend spends too much time talking and obsessing over her new boyfriend. We will just have to wait and watch the show to see if the girl manage to men their friendship, and see all of Rosanna's adventures in the outside world.
'Return to Amish' Season 6 premieres on Monday, March 22 at 9pm ET/PT only on TLC.
