WILMINGTON, OHIO: A 14-year-old boy accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Caleb King on Saturday, April 24, has surrendered to the police. Teenager Yevin Medley allegedly shot King on April 24 around 4.30 pm on Derbyshire Drive.

King was taken to Clinton County Memorial Hospital with a single shot to the stomach but he succumbed to his injury. City officials said that Medley surrendered peacefully on Monday, April 26, shortly before 8 pm. Prior to the arrest, Medley was considered armed and dangerous.

Medley is charged with felonious assault and reckless homicide, according to Wilmington Police Chief Ron Cravens. The police department has not released any details on a motive. Cravens says the weapon involved in the shooting has not been found.

Brian Maynard, a father of King's friend, said King used to often visit his place. “It’s traumatic how children get guns put in their hands and they think they are entitled to take people’s lives or whatever with them,” he said. “They have no clue what kind of danger they have while they are playing with these guns.” Maynard described King as a giving, caring, kind and pleasant young man. “If you were starved and he was starving he would give it to you first. That’s just the kind of person he was,” he said.

Wilmington is a city of about 12,000 people and is the county seat in Clinton County. Wilmington Police Chief Ron Cravens said such violence is extremely rare and is especially shocking given the age of the suspect. “Wilmington is a very safe place to reside and acts like this are very uncommon for us. This is only our third homicide in the past five years or so, so this is uncommon and it’s shocking to us,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Wilmington Police Department at 937-382-TIPS.
