Who is Violet Witchel? TikTok star finds herself in potato fiasco on ‘MasterChef: Generations’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Violet Witchel is a 23-year-old content creator from San Francisco, California. She has gained significant popularity on TikTok with over two million followers, making her one of the top food content creators for her age group. Her TikTok videos primarily showcase easy-to-follow recipes and other engaging food-related content, contributing to her massive following.
Recently, Violet participated in 'MasterChef: Generations' Season 14, where she encountered a challenging moment. In one episode, Violet prepared a dish that included grilled NY Strip with chimichurri, a goat cheese omelet, and crispy potatoes. Unfortunately, her execution did not go as planned.
Gordon Ramsay, one of the judges on 'MasterChef: Generations' Season 14, critiqued Violet's dish, noting that while the steak had great color and the potatoes looked delicious, they were undercooked. He also commented that the dish didn't seem very attractive and did not reflect well on Gen Z.
He noted that the meat was slightly overcooked and the fat wasn't properly rendered. A significant critique was the undercooked potatoes, a critical error in a cooking competition.
Another judge, Aarón Sánchez, complimented the chimichurri as "textbook" but ultimately said no to the dish. Next, Joe Bastianich, the toughest to please, was confused by the combination of a whole steak with an omelet, calling it one of the "greatest hits" of bistro dishes and giving it a no. In the end, Violet faced rejection as she did not receive an apron on the Fox show.
Violet Witchel went viral during the Covid-19 pandemic
Violet Witchel became a viral sensation on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic as she started her TikTok account, @violetcooks, for fun during the spring and summer of 2020 when people were stuck at home and many were seeking new hobbies.
“Originally, I started my account for fun. I posted a few cooking videos and none of them blew up, and I didn’t really go into it expecting anything,” she said to The Miscellany News.
However, her life took an unexpected turn when one of her recipes went viral. “I made a taco video and that got 300,000 likes and I thought I was like hot shit,” Violet said.
From that point on, Violet began posting cooking videos more frequently. As people turned to social media for comfort during the pandemic, her following rapidly expanded.
“I just kept doing it for fun, and then around 20 or 30,000 followers I started getting advertisers and companies sending me PR and I was like, ‘Oh shit! This is kinda real,’” she shared.
Within a month of starting her account, Violet reached 100,000 followers. Nearly a year later, she achieved the significant milestone of one million followers. Her content is celebrated for its aesthetic appeal, a feat she accomplishes despite cooking in a crowded kitchen.
