LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: George Santos, a New York congressman who has already been charged with 23 criminal counts of fraud, recently found himself in the midst of another controversy when he claimed that his niece, the five-year-old daughter of his sister Tiffany Santos, had been abducted from a New York City playground by Chinese Communists.

This sensational and unverified assertion raised eyebrows and, as it turns out, added to the growing list of controversies surrounding the embattled politician. 

George Santos' outlandish kidnapping claim

Santos raised suspicions when he told a New York Times journalist that his niece had been abducted by Chinese Communists. This claim was met with skepticism from law enforcement and the general public. According to a senior NYPD source, there was no evidence to support the abduction attempt, and added, "I'd lean into, 'he made it up.'''

The New York congressman alleged that surveillance footage showed his niece with two Chinese men, leading him to speculate that his niece's kidnapping might be linked to his strong stance against the Chinese Communist Party. However, the NYPD's investigations found no evidence of any kidnapping.

George Santos and his controversial Chinese connections

Santos has been publicly advocating for a tough stance on China and co-sponsored a bill that requires higher education institutions to disclose their affiliations with Chinese-linked groups.

He has also been a staunch supporter of Miles Guo, a Chinese dissident businessman and an associate of Steve Bannon, who is currently facing fraud charges in the United States.

Santos alluded to a connection between his niece's alleged "kidnapping" and his strong stance against the Chinese Communist Party.

When asked whether he believed China was involved, Santos responded by saying, "Look, I don't want to go into like, conspiracy theory. But you know, if the shoe fits, right?"

However, a high-ranking member of the NYPD conducted an investigation into the incident and found no evidence to support the claim of kidnapping. The official conveyed, "We found nothing at all to suggest it's true. I'd lean into, 'he made it up.'''

Tiffany Santos' past legal trouble

Tiffany, the younger sister of Santos, has also made headlines for her own troubles. She was involved in a lengthy eviction case in Queens County Civil Court, where she was accused of failing to pay over $40,000 in rent on an Elmhurst apartment.

While grappling with eviction, she continued to make campaign donations to her brother's election efforts, raising questions about her financial priorities.

Internet users are fatigued and have ridiculed Santos' falsehoods. A user tweeted, "Has he ever made a truthful statement??" 

Another added, ““We found nothing at all to suggest it’s true,” the official told Ashford. “I’d lean into, ‘he made it up.’” Santos' track record of outrageous lies make it clear that his statements cannot be trusted by voters, colleagues, or law enforcement.”

A third tweeted, "Expel him from Congress already!" A user mocked, "If he said “I’m a liar” would you believe him or would that be a lie too?" "Can we just get rid of these people who don’t follow their oath of office???" read a tweet. Another chimed, "He’s a hazard, a risk, a liability, a threat to America."
