Police describe 'horrific' double homicide
Col Alex Payne, chief deputy with the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office, reportedly told reporters, "We did all we could. There were two victims in the bedroom. They were covered in blood and a gun on the bed."
"Whether you think it's mental illness, just pure evil, a combination of both, it could be substance abuse, any combination thereof. Pick your poison. None of it's good. The result is horrific," he continued.
Stating that the deceased children were half brothers, Payne added, "The father of one of the victims is deceased. The father of the other victim is unknown. Whereabouts are unknown. Other family members, we got hold of and made notification."
Tiffany Lucas' neighbor made the gruesome discovery
On seeing Lucas outside and suspecting something was wrong, one of her neighbors entered her residence and found the bleeding children, reported WLKY.
Speaking with the local news station, neighbor Steve Steier said, "It's sad. I mean, what's this world coming to? For a mother to shoot her two children like that?"
Another neighbor, Patricia Herrell, added, "I'm a mom of two, and it's hard," while fighting back tears.
"It's devastating, I mean as a mother I can't imagine thinking that's the only way," stated a third neighbor, Amanda Mangis.
