MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Rudolph "Rudy" Garcia, the 48-year-old convicted felon who repeatedly stabbed 25-year-old EMS worker Julia Fatum last week, was reportedly arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of attempted murder and assault. Shortly after being taken into custody, Garcia reportedly told officials that the EMTs treating him "are fake."

He also claimed they "kidnapped" him even though he did not need medical attention, Assistant District Attorney Lauren Breen said, as per The New York Post. Fatum was reportedly treating Garcia on their way to a hospital near West 58th Street and 9th Avenue when the latter stabbed her six times with a kitchen knife and left her with "serious physical injury from the stab wounds to her chest, arm and leg." The EMS worker was released from the hospital on Wednesday, July 26.

What is known about Rudolph 'Rudy' Garcia?

Garcia is a convicted felon who was recently arraigned for stabbing an EMS worker, Fatum, while she was aiding him on their way to a hospital. According to The New York Post, Garcia reportedly had two felony convictions from the past for assaulting a police officer as well as three misdemeanor convictions and at least two failures of appearing in court, prosecutors mentioned.

The 48-year-old allegedly headbutted a police officer who was trying to arrest him for punching his sister in 2017. He was also convicted for criminal possession of a weapon for owning a boxcutter. More recently, Garcia was caught in a subway station with a knife hidden in his boot, "which is the same place he stored the secreted knife" used to attack Fatum, Breen said.

Garcia was charged with attempted murder and assault for stabbing Fatum, who "suffered significant blood loss" and had to undergo multiple surgeries. In a footage documenting the attack, Fatum could be seen crying out in pain while another EMS worker could be heard telling Garcia, "What the hell is he doing? What are you doing? Back off now! Keep your hands down!"

Meanwhile, Garcia could be seen yelling, "I don’t know what happened" before the EMT could be heard replying, "You stabbed her, bro!" Following Garcia's arraignment, Judge Soma Syed ordered the felon to be held on $500,000 cash bail.

'How is your bail reform working????'

While Fatum was recently released from the hospital, she has a long road ahead before her complete recovery. Following the attack, her mother Cara Fatum-Grant, took to Facebook to call out the incident as well as Garcia's criminal history. "Fact: Rouldoph 'Rudy' Garcia, 48 of Bronx NY has eight prior arrests, including criminal possession of a weapon, assault, menacing with a weapon, drugs, burglary & assault on a police officer" Cara wrote on Facebook.

"He has been released back into civilization 8 times. New York has failed its people. How is your bail reform working????" she asked. However, Cara was also overwhelmed over the support her daughter received while undergoing treatment. "I'm overwhelmed, I can't believe there are so many people who can to see the value in her," she told ABC7 News.
