Who is Orlando Adorino?
Orlando Adorino, 38, is a seven-year NYPD veteran. On December 21 morning, Adorina and another officer reached 77 Gates Avenue, shortly after 8.30 am following a woman's call reporting that her friend was "damaging the wall." After the cops arrived at the scene to respond to the domestic dispute, the suspect who was being handcuffed by the cops opened a gunshot fire and injured Adorino. He was then hospitalized and has since been discharged.
Following the incident, Mayor Eric Adams, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell and Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey visited the cop at the facility. At a press meeting, Adams said, “Let’s be clear, because of Officer Adorino’s and his partner’s actions, we have a dangerous person off our streets and an illegal gun off our streets.”
Commissioner Sewell shared the NYPD News tweet on Adorino's discharge from the hospital and wrote: "Just hours after being shot in the line of duty, one of your NYPD officers left the hospital surrounded by his family in blue."
Thanking the people who treated Adorino at the hospital and the police department, Sewell wrote: "To the @KingsCountyHosp team for their superb care, And all those NYPD officers who continue to go out there every day to keep NYers safe — Thank You!"
