A 75-year-old woman was rescued by a young man after she was attacked and carjacked at a Safeway in San Francisco's Richmond District. According to ABC7, surveillance videos from a witness show the moment the Good Samaritan realized there was something wrong when he was walking out of a shop around 5 pm on Thursday, March 11. As per SFPD, the old woman was attacked by three young women as she was walking back to her Lexus. They tried grabbing her car keys and purse, and that was when the young man leaped to her defense. He dropped the jug of almond milk he was carrying and jumped on the back of the car.

Who is the mystery Good Samaritan?

Unfortunately, the young college graduate did not want to be identified, but there was no doubt he was doubly pleased with his effort, suggested the ABC7 report. "I could barely sleep that night!" the young man said. "I'm walking across the parking lot and I see this old woman being dragged across by her head, these girls are punching her and kicking and stomped on."

"Honestly, I'm still trying to find out why I did this one... but I just punched through the back window and it was loud. It was loud enough and kind of scary enough to freak them out," he explained. The video footage showed the suspects get out of the car and make their way to a vehicle parked nearby and the young man then makes his way to comfort the old woman. The white-haired elderly woman was described to ABC7 News anchor Dion Lim by a witness as somebody "tough as nails," as she declined treatment at the hospital.

"She thanked me and she said I don't have to pay for her windshield her back window, so that's really nice," the man added. He also went on to say he didn't forget to pick up his almond milk as "that stuff's not cheap!" and also had a message for the old woman: "I think I would say...stay strong, the community has your back!" One of the women was arrested a couple of days later and SFPD continue their investigation in the case.

This just adds to the string of crimes San Francisco has observed in the last few months. The residents called for change earlier when a woman was attacked at gunpoint and had her puppy stolen by three men. Joel Engardio, the vice president of Stop Crime SF told ABC7 News that change starts with pressure being applied on public officials.

"We saw four cases this past month where the common thread was somebody was killed and the suspect had previously been arrested and released and had a long rap sheet," Engardio said. "And so something is not working with the criminal justice system. Somebody needs to intervene to make sure these violent offenders aren't reoffending."
