Mike Pompeo’s wife Susan Pompeo is currently making headlines after a new investigation by the state department’s internal watchdog suggests that Pompeo and his wife Susan have breached the ethics rule using federal resources for personal benefit.

The report further suggests that more than 100 requests were made by the Pompeo family to the State Government which included tasks like purchasing Christmas cards, making dinner reservations, taking care of their pets, buying tickets, and planning events for officials with whom Pompeo had a nongovernmental relationship.

Who is Susan Pompeo?

Susan Pompeo originally from Wichita, KS is very close to her hometown. She shared her love for Wichita in an interview sharing, “It used to be when someone was elected they bought a house and moved their entire family to Washington and that’s where they lived. That’s where the kids went to school. That’s where they made their home. But for us it could never be home. Wichita is home and we get back here as often as we can,” she said to Wichita Magazine.

Mike Pompeo, known to be very religious, shares the same religious faith as her. Their family reportedly 'regularly' attends church at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Though not clear how much Mike Pompeo's staunch political stands are supported by Susan, the couple shares the same religious faith. 

Susan is the second wife of Pompeo after Leslie Libert

Mike Pompeo graduated from US Military Academy at West Point in 1986 at the top of his class with a BS in mechanical engineering and right after graduation married Leslie Libert of Islip. After further military training, he was sent to Europe. Pompeo served as a tank officer, a cavalry troop executive officer, and a squadron maintenance officer in Germany. Later, he left active duty in 1991 with the rank of captain and moved to Wichita, to establish aircraft parts manufacturer Thayer Aerospace with some Army friends. Moving to Wichita drew him closer to Susan Pompeo who is also a Wichita resident.



 

Susan's role in Mike Pompeo campaign 

Reports suggest that Susan Pompeo played a very significant role in Mike Pompeo's campaign where she said, “We decided we would do this together. We set out to do this like we would do any venture. I loved the campaigning part of it, much more than Mike did. We’ve laughed many times because there is no manual to tell you step-by-step how to do this, not even how to transition.”

Mike and Susan have a son together, 29-year-old Nicholas. He currently lives in New York and is a sales leader at Google. 

Mike and Susan Pompeo accused of misusing federal resources

According to the recent internal watchdog report, Mike and Susan's family took govt resources for personal usages. From booking salon appointments and private dinner reservations to picking up their dog and arranging tours for the Pompeos’ political allies, the personal requests were made to state department staffers, a Politico report suggested. The report adds, a senior adviser to the secretary and a senior Foreign Service officer even appeared on one weekend “to envelope, address, and mail personal Christmas cards for the Pompeos.”
