A spine-chilling video shows a man with his hand covered in blood boasting about the murder of a woman after he stabbed her in 2019. Mert Ney is now facing life imprisonment for the killing of Michaela Dunn in Sydney’s Central Business District on August 13, 2019. Ney, from Marayong near Blacktown, allegedly went on a stabbing spree two years ago as he stabbed 24-year-old Dunn before attacking a bystander Lin Bo, who survived.
During his sentence hearing, a shocking clip filmed by Ney himself on social media app Snapchat was played in the King Street court on March 29 which showed him escaping through a fire escape. He then said, “I actually f***ing did it,” as he displayed his blood-soaked hands, trousers, and shoes. Ney added, “Look at my f***ing hands... Bro... I'm not lying... Look at my f***ing pants.” Ney sent short videos of the crime scene to two friends on social media, telling them to call the police.

As per reports, when the horrifying footage was played, the alleged murderer did not show much emotion as he was seen resting his head on the palm of his hand. A CCTV footage was also presented in the court that showed Ney running through the streets with a knife in his outstretched arms, a balaclava covering his face and blood on his T-shirt yelling “Allahu Akbar" and later taunting the police to “fucking shoot me in the head”. The video captured the harrowing moment when Bo was stabbed in the back by the man using a butcher’s knife. A statement read to the court on her behalf stated: “I dropped like a hunted animal. Blood pouring from my side. I am still hugely afraid of the possibility of going back in the city where the attack happened.”
According to the documents presented before the NSW Supreme Court, prosecutors referred to his reign of terror as “premeditated murder and mayhem”. In October 2020, Ney pleaded guilty to the killing of Dunn and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for the attack on Bo. During his hearing on March 29, he told the court he "had to fully commit" to a rampage through Sydney's CBD after murdering a woman so that he would be shot dead by police, reports ABC. He said his acts were "pointless and selfish".
During the hearing, Dunn’s mother did not leave the public gallery while the disturbing video was played. The devastated mother also paid tribute to her daughter as she said, “Who would want to take the life of a gorgeous woman with the world at her feet? We have not just lost our daughter. But we have lost our future as it should have been. It seems so wrong that her perpetrator will continue on with his life at the end of his sentence.”
The mother also accused media houses of being “extremely cruel” in their initial representation of her deceased daughter, who was a sex worker. She added: “They had no idea of the amazing young woman she was. I want people to understand that Mikky could have been their daughter. Their sister, their friend. She was just the girl next door.”
Joan Westenberg, who had known Dunn for a decade, said she was “like my baby sister”. “I cannot describe how sad and how broken I am at this moment. I loved this kid. She was incredible. I just want to scream right now. I am angry that male violence has taken another victim. Selfishly I am so angry that the victim is a young woman I deeply respected and cared about,” Westenberg added.
