Who is Marion Lewis? Jaslyn Adams suspect, 18, charged for murder, others wanted in Chicago McDonald's shooting
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: An 18-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of seven-year-old Jaslyn Adams outside a McDonald's in Chicago. Adams died in a hail of bullets fired into her family car while waiting in a McDonald's drive-thru in Chicago.
Adams was sitting in the car along with her father at the McDonald’s, at 3200 W Roosevelt Road in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side on Sunday, April 18, waiting for their turn to pick up food when the shooting took place. The little girl was struck by gunfire multiple times and was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her father Jontae Adams was also wounded in the shooting -- he was shot in his lower back. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Jontae said the mental and emotional pain of losing his daughter outweighed the physical pain. "That’s my baby I just lost," Adams said. "I got shot. My baby got shot six times. I want my daughter’s killers locked up."
Who is Marion Lewis?
Lewis, 18, as per reports, faces more than a dozen other felony charges, including attempted murder. He was arrested Thursday, April 22, after leading police, who were surveilling him, on a brief car chase. According to law enforcement officials, Lewis crashed his car and attempted to hijack a family's vehicle that was stopped in traffic.
Police then shot Lewis multiple times. Two guns were reportedly recovered from Lewis, according to police. That Lewis was a suspect in the McDonald's shooting was announced later. As per authorities, he is just one of several suspects in the killing. "You can run, but you can't hide. We are going to bring you to justice for this crime," Chicago Police Department Superintendent David Brown said on Saturday. "The Adams family deserves nothing less."
"We are limited in what we can say because we have other offenders to bring in on this horrific crime," Brown said, applauding the work of Chicago police detectives and suburban police departments who helped apprehend Lewis.
In addition to first-degree murder and attempted murder for the killing of Jaslyn and wounding her father, Lewis is also facing a slew of other charges including aggravated assault on a police officer, robbery, aggravated vehicular hijacking, multiple counts of aggravated discharge of a gun, unlawful restraint and possession of a stolen vehicle. Lewis, as per reports, was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday for a bond hearing.
Police said that the shooting was gang-related, adding that they believe it was tied to another shooting that wounded two people at a Popeyes in Humboldt Park less than three hours later.
Jaslyn’s grandmother, Lawanda McMullen, said in a message to other suspects, "Just turn yourself in. You know a 7-year-old girl she had nothing to do with that at all. You know if you have any heart, you know if you have a child -- just think about your family."
