The pandemic hasn't been kind to 'No Time to Die' star Lashana Lynch. Her first major role was in a Bond movie and the film postponed its release severe times due to the pandemic. But 2021 brings good news as Lynch is now reportedly in the final negotiations to join the cast of the feature adaptation of the musical 'Matilda' for Netflix.

Based on the Roald Dahl classic about a gifted 5-year-old girl who uses her powers of telekinesis to fight bullies and protect her friends, the stage musical 'Matilda the Musical' was a critical and commercial success earning itself seven 2012 Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards in 2013. The same director Matthew Warchus is now bringing the musical to Netflix with Lynch set to play the role of Miss Honey, the kind teacher from Matilda's school who encourages her and her gifts. In the previous 1996 adaptation of the feature film, the role was played by Embeth Davidtz.

Who is Lashana Lynch?

For English actress Lynch, the musical is a huge contrast with the James Bond movie she just worked in, which was the biggest role of her career so far. The movie might have delayed its release throughout the year, but it undoubtedly remains one of the biggest projects.

Before she landed the role of Nomi on 'No Time to Die', Lynch had her breakthrough in the role of ace pilot and single mom Maria Rambeau opposite Brie Larson in Marvel superhero standalone Captain Marvel. This performance not only earned her recognition but also critical praise, especially for the particularly emotional monologue she delivers right in the middle of the movie.

Before 'Captain Marvel' came along, Lynch was welcomed into Shondaland. The big American break for the British actress came via a Shonda Rhimes-produced take on Romeo called 'Still Star-Crossed'. Lynch played the show’s leading lady and Romeo’s first love, Rosaline Capulet. Though short-lived, the ABC period drama introduced Lynch to Rhimes, which was going to lead her to new avenues.

Lynch did several small roles in television and films before she grew to fame. Making her debut in 2012 with 'Fast Girls', Lynch went on to star in 'The 7.39', 'Silent Witness' and 'Death in Paradise'. Her role in BBC's 'Crims' is also well known.

It is around 2015 that she really began impressing audiences with her work. Starring opposite Lenny Henry in the title role of the Chichester Festival Theatre production of 'Educating Rita' by Willy Russell, Lynch's performance was called "dazzlingly fresh".

Lynch's profile promises that 'Matilda' the musical on Netflix will be a delight to watch.
