Who is Kassandra Aguayo? Texas woman indicted for allegedly murdering her former live-in-partner
LUBBOCK, TEXAS: A 30-year-old Texas woman gets indicted for allegedly murdering her former live-in-partner. Kassandra Aguayo killed Ramon Flores, 66, by putting a plastic bag over his head and stabbing him in the stomach and then watched him bleed out to “make sure he died.”
On Tuesday, August 29, a Lubbock County grand jury returned a true bill indicting Aguayo on one count of first-degree murder in the 2022 slaying of Flores, authorities said. The Lubbock Police Department said via press release that on November 11, last year, LPD officers responded to a call about a dead body being discovered at a residence located in the 5400 block of Interstate 27 at about 3.45 pm.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found the lifeless body of Flores who died from apparent stab wounds.
Where did the officers find Aguayo?
Investigators with the department’s Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit were quick to zero down on Aguayo as a person of interest in the case. They were able to get a warrant for his arrest and later the suspect was located on November 18 by the deputies with the Hale County Sheriff’s Office at a residence located in the 500 block of West 5th Street in Plainview. She was subsequently booked for Flores' murder.
Initially she was booked into the Hale County Detention Center before she was released into the custody of police and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center. Aguayo has remained there in detention since her initial arrest.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Aguayo allegedly provided a detailed description of her killing Flores to a friend who later disclosed the information to the authorities.
There were no signs of forced entry at the home
According to the report, as there were no signs of forced entry at the home, investigators believed Flores knew his attacker. A family member informed the police that were on a call with the victim on November 10, when they heard a woman’s voice in the background.
They noted that Flores sounded surprised about the unexpected guest and told the family member he would ring them back. The family member reportedly indicated that Aguayo was likely the one who dropped by the victim's home. Texas ABC affiliate KAMC reported that she previously lived with Flores until February 2022.
What did Aguayo tell the police?
Aguayo allegedly claimed to the officers during an interview that she was working at the Lubbock State School all day and into the night on November 10. However, police claimed she never went to work on that day and did not state any reason for her absence.
Another witness supposedly told the authorities that Aguayo confessed to murdering Flores, in which she first suffocated him and then knifed him in the torso multiple times.
“She told [the witness] she had put a bag over his head, and when that didn’t work she stabbed him in the stomach,” the warrant reportedly said. “She said the knife had broken, so [Aguayo] got another knife from the kitchen and stabbed him again.” The witness further stated that she did not immediately flee the scene. “She told him she had watched Ray to make sure he died,” the warrant reportedly said.
Aguayo remains in detention on a $500,000 bond.
