LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: The mother of Jesus Ayala, 18, one of the two teenagers who were charged as adults for allegedly killing retired police chief Andreas Probst in a hit-and-run, recently broke her silence and spoke out about her son's arrest. 

While the mother was recorded on camera speaking to the press, her name has not yet been disclosed to the public. 

Speaking to 8News Now, the mother said she does not know if God will forgive her son, who was 17 at the time of the incident, for his actions. 



 

Jesus Ayala's mother apologizes for son's crime

Ayala's mother addressed the allegations against her son while speaking to 8News Now on Wednesday, September 20. 

"I don’t know why he did this. I don’t know if God can forgive this," she said.

"I don't know what happened to my son. I don't know, I am sorry," the visibly upset mother said in the video when a reporter asked her to share her family's side of story. 

The mother of Jzamir Keys, 16, who was reportedly beside Ayala during the incident and filmed a horrifying video of the hit-and-run also acknowledged her son's arrest over text. 

"My son’s side of the story will be told, 'the truth,' not the inaccuracies the media will try to portray," she wrote. 

Relatives of both Ayala and Keys attended an court hearing. As per The Mirror, a woman who declined to provide her name covered her face as she cried after hearing master Randall Forman said he would be sending the case to Justice Court. 

Two of Key's relatives who attended the hearing also wept as Timothy Andrews sent the case to Justice Court, the publication noted.

What did Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys do? 

At around 6 AM on August 14, Ayala and Keys, reportedly hit 64-year-old Probst while he was riding his bicycle in a bike lane near Tenaya Way and Centennial Parkway. 

Probst was taken to University Medical Center and later pronounced dead. Officials later identified Ayala as the driver of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra which hit the retired police chief. 

Keys was later identified as the passenger who recorded the incident. A disturbing video displaying a dashboard view showed Ayala approaching Probst from behind before the latter was struck and thrown against the windshield.  

Laughter and comments from inside the car was also heard in the background of the video. Ayala was taken into custody the same day of the incident. 

Police arrested Keys on September 19. Both the teens were booked into Clark County Detention Center to be charged as adults. 



 

According to 8News Now, officials revealed that the teens were involved in a crime spree on the day of the incident.

They reportedly stole four cars and hit another cyclist, 72, who survived the attack. 

It was also revealed that Ayala had a lengthy criminal history in the juvenile system while Keys was reportedly in the child welfare system at 8 years old.

Court documents showed his mother was charged with five counts of child abuse in 2016.
