EVERGREEN, COLORADO: An animal rights attorney from Colorado has been charged for allegedly trying to hire a killer to murder her estranged husband's girlfriend. The said girlfriend had also been the family's au pair. Jennifer Emmi was arrested in January on several charges, including solicitation of murder, stalking, and retaliating against a witness or victim, The Daily Mail reported. It has been said that the 43-year-old was fighting a divorce battle with her estranged husband — whose name has not been revealed — when she attempted to hire a hitman.

Emmi allegedly contacted a ranch hand, 28-year-old Timothy Lindsey, and asked for Lindsey'shelp in killing the au pair in November last year. A series of recorded phone calls allegedly pointed to the accused asking Lindsey if the latter knew someone who could “get rid” of her husband’s love interest. According to an affidavit, Emmi gave the other woman’s name and workplace. Lindsey also reportedly played along and told Emmi that the work would cost her around $100,000, to which she responded, “the money would not be a problem”. She also reportedly had a discussion with the ranch hand about where the murder should take place

Besides, it has been reported that Emmi once suggested that both her estranged husband and his girlfriend could be murdered because, “if there was a car accident or something, no one would know,” the affidavit noted. However, later she put the plan “on hold”. During the investigation, officers also checked Emmi’s computer, where they found her search history, which included things, like, “how to get rid of the other woman for good.” But all her alleged plans failed after Lindsey informed police as well as her estranged husband about it.

Lindsey’s information led to a six-month operation that included undercover meetings, blackmail, and extortion attempts. The animal rights lawyer was then taken into custody at the Jefferson County jail, where she has been held on a $3 million bond. But Emmi’s lawyer has defended her saying the evidence collected by the police states his client did not plan to execute her plot. “The allegations, at least the way the warrant reads, is she's understandably upset. She finds out that after sacrificing her body and having three beautiful kids that her husband literally traded her in for a much younger girl. It's not unusual for someone whose husband is having an affair with the au pair to be upset and mad. The line of saying how mad you are and how enraged you are and saying it to other people — it seems odd one of them was then a confidential informant who was working with police,” Colin Bresee, Emmi's defense lawyer, said.

As per the affidavit, Emmi is also accused of researching witnesses, judges, prosecutors, and investigators involved in her case, occasionally keeping handwritten notes with personal information on those people and their families. The woman, the founder of The Animal Law Center, also analyzed if her phone could be tracked by the police or not and purchased devices to stop the tracking.

Meanwhile, Emmi’s husband and the au pair have claimed that they are living in constant fear because of domestic violence incidents with the family, including the three kids. They have reportedly gone into hiding. In a year, Emmi — who established a nonprofit ranch in Evergreen to accentuate the bond between humans and animals — has been pressed with numerous charges, ranging from 16 felonies and 16 misdemeanors for alleged domestic violence, retaliation against witnesses to attempts to influence public servants. Reports said all the charges against her are outstanding.
