Who is Jenna Ellis? Trump PAC refuses to financially assist indicted lawyer because of Ron DeSantis support
GEORGIA: Donald Trump's political action committee (PAC) has opted not to provide financial support to cover Jenna Ellis' legal fees. The decision has reportedly been influenced by Ellis' supportive stance toward Republican candidate Ron DeSantis, causing her to seek alternative funding.
John Cardillo, a former radio host, revealed the rationale behind the PAC's refusal to assist Ellis. Cardillo stated that Ellis' vocal endorsement of DeSantis prompted the PAC's decision, indicating a departure from her longstanding loyalty to Trump, as per Newsweek.
Who is Jenna Ellis?
Ellis, a former member of Trump's legal team, was among the 19 individuals indicted over an alleged scheme to overturn Georgia's 2020 presidential election outcome. Notably, by March 2023, the Colorado Supreme Court issued a censure against Ellis due to her deceptive statements concerning the 2020 presidential election.
In response to her legal predicament, Ellis initiated an online crowdfunding campaign to cover her legal fees. Although Trump's PAC will not be contributing, Ellis has successfully garnered over $10,000 through this initiative.
The refusal of financial assistance from Trump's PAC is allegedly believed to stem from Ellis' public support for DeSantis, a potential contender in the Republican primary, reported Newsweek.
In recent developments, former President Trump and 18 associates faced charges filed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, alleging that they engaged in unlawful actions to obstruct President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 Georgia election.
Trump has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, and his legal team issued a statement denouncing the accusations as "flawed and unconstitutional."
What are the charges against Jenna Ellis?
Ellis herself faces two charges, involving solicitation of a public officer's oath violation and violating Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, a statute designed to combat organized crime that carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
In response to the allegations against her, Ellis tweeted: "The Democrats and the Fulton County DA are criminalizing the practice of law. I am resolved to trust the Lord and I will simply continue to honor, praise, and serve Him. I deeply appreciate all of my friends who have reached out offering encouragement and support."
Ellis has not responded to claims that she was financially cut off by Trump due to her support for DeSantis.
Amid the legal turmoil, Ellis turned to GiveSendGo, a Christian crowdfunding platform, to seek financial support for her legal defense.
Her profile on the platform states, "This is the OFFICIAL crowdfunding support page for Jenna Ellis, created by her legal team. Jenna Ellis, former senior legal adviser and personal counsel to President Trump, is being targeted and the government is trying to criminalize the practice of law. Help her fight back and stand for the truth!"
