Who is Ian Diaz? US marshal, wife lured Craigslist users with 'rape fantasy' in scheme to set up ex-girlfriend
A US marshal and his wife have been accused of luring Craigslist users to help them set up the marshal's ex-girlfriend for a crime that she did not commit. This was reportedly to ensure that the ex-girlfriend did not show further interest in a property that she had jointly owned with the marshal, Ian Diaz.
They had lured users by leading them to believe that they would be taking part in a 'rape fantasy' while the two had planned to use the incident to frame the ex-girlfriend.

Who is Ian Diaz?
Ian Diaz, the US marshal in question, hatched the plan with wife Angela Diaz. The ex-girlfriend that they had tried to frame is Michelle Hadley. Diaz was arrested on May 13 in relation to the plot that he had conspired with Angela in 2015. Diaz and Angela had made it seem as if the event was being organized by Hadley, but in reality, the one behind the entire plot was the husband and wife.
Diaz and Angela believed that men from Craigslist would approach Angela, and attack believing that this was all a fantasy that was being played out and Hadley would be accused of hurting Angela which would help the couple separate her from her claims to the condominium. According to a report in Law & Crime, "It was a purpose of the conspiracy to engage in a cyberstalking campaign to harass and intimidate (Hadley) by framing her for criminal conduct that she did not commit."
In 2015, while Hadley and Diaz had separated, they continued to fight over the property continually. This is what really started the plot. Court documents quoted in reports also state that the couple used different usernames and identities to set up accounts with names linked to Hadley. Federal prosecutors wrote that the couple even, "sent to themselves harassing and threatening electronic communications" acting as Hadley.
The indictment also stated that the couple "staged one or more hoax sexual assaults and hoax attempted sexual assaults". Diaz and Angela also called 911 and they claimed falsely to the officials that Hadley was the culprit adding that she ‘posed a genuine and serious threat’ to their safety. In June 2016, Diaz and Angela also asked authorities "At what point does this girl get arrested for sending this s**t and hiring guys off Craigslist to rape." As a result of their claims, Hadley was incarcerated for three months and was only able to clear her name after three months and was released from prison in 2017.
Anglea Diaz was charged in 2017 with multiple state crimes and will spend five years behind the bar. Ian was arrested and charged with one count each of perjury, cyberstalking and conspiracy to commit cyberstalking and he is also set to spend five years in prison.
