Who is Dylan Carter? 20-year-old realtor moves 'The Voice' coach Reba McEntire to tears
UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: Singer-songwriter Dylan Carter made all the judges swivel their chairs and even brought one judge to tears in a teaser of the latest episode of 'The Voice'.
During the Blind Audition episode, the 20-year-old singer performed his rendition of Whitney Houston's 'I look to you', impressing all the judges.
Dylan, a contestant on NBC's 'The Voice', gave one of the most emotional performances to date in a sneak peek of the October 16 episode and convinced all four coaches to spin their chairs in an attempt to urge him to join their team.
While everyone seemed to get emotional after witnessing the rendition, no one was more moved than Reba McEntire.
In the teaser, the country music icon told Dylan, "I love that song. I love that songs when you can take it spiritual or secular, either one. So much emotion, and I saw it and I felt it and I heard it when you were singing. That's the kind of songs that..."
Reba had to pause for a second as she began to weep before continuing her glowing evaluation.
"That do that to me too, cause I saw you get so emotionally involved. And that's when you know you've got a great song and a great singer, when it touches your heart," the 68-year-old said.
Reba concluded by saying that Dylan was here on this planet to "touch people's hearts, and you did it."
Dylan Carter's 'The Voice' performance had 'pitch issues'
Judge Niall Horan joked and said, "Wow. You made the queen cry, in the best way possible." He added, "That was spectacular. I could really feel the emotion. You only get four chairs if it really moves the room."
He also said that, when all the judges turned their chairs, he heard "a few pitch issues. But that's normal."
"So much nerves," Dylan replied.
Gwen Stefani calls 'The Voice' contestant Dylan Carter 'my guy'
Gwen Stefani, also competing for the youthful talent, remarked, "From the moment you opened your mouth, I was like, 'This is my guy', I love your voice."
"Your voice is so warm, but you also have so much texture to your voice. Little nuances you were doing at the right exact moments that make it feel emotional," she added.
Gwen found it strange that Dylan would be "that shocked" to get four chairs. Gwen has promised to be Dylan's "cheerleader."
Dylan Carter reveals he couldn't fulfill his mother's last wish
Singer John Legend told Dylan that it felt like the song's emotion was really real to Dylan. This led to Dylan revealing the significance of his choice of song.
He said, "When I saw y’all turn around, I saw my mom, she passed back in October," he said. "She wanted me to sing it at her funeral. So, I did it, I tried, but I couldn’t make it through it. This was the best second chance. I made her so proud. This was her dream before it was mine," Dylan said.
"We all felt it too," John continued and added, "I know your mother is proud of you."
Reba also told a personal anecdote about her mother, who encouraged her to pursue a career in show business. "If you do this," her mother stated of her decision to go to Nashville, "I'll be living my dreams through you."
"That's how this feels. I hear her, through me," Dylan added.
"Mamas are so special. We’re very blessed to have them, right?" Reba said.
