Who is Dean Phillips' wife? House Democrat Rep launches primary challenge against Joe Biden
WAYZATA, MINNESOTA: US representative Dean Phillips has officially announced his challenge to President Joe Biden in the 2024 Democratic primary race on October 27. The 54-year-old is married to Annalise Glick and has two daughters, Daniela and Pia, from his previous marriage to Karin Einisman.
Phillips has filed the papers to appear on the primary ballot in New Hampshire, where the first US primary election will take place.
As reasons for his nominations, Phillips cited the low approval ratings and polling numbers of the 80-year-old incumbent president against potential Republican rivals.
Phillips said, "I think President Biden has done a spectacular job for our country, but it’s not about the past. This is an election about the future. I will not sit still, I will not be quiet in the face of numbers that are so clearly saying that we’re going to be facing an emergency next November,” in a conversation with CBS News.
President Joe Biden's falling approval ratings
A recent Gallup poll showed the current president's job approval rating among Democrats fell by 11 percentage points in the last month, to 75% — the worst of his presidency.
The overall approval rating of President Biden stands at 37%, as only 5% of Republicans approve of his performance.
He also drew the ire of some Democrats by diluting the influence of New Hampshire in the 2024 primary calendar but continues to enjoy the support of the overwhelming majority of establishment Democrats and donors.
Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz seemingly took a slight jab at Phillips as he stated in a fundraising email for the incumbent president on October 27 that people in the state sometimes "make political side shows for themselves," as reported by BBC.

Phillips has been a reliable vote in Congress for the policies of the Biden Administration. However, he stepped down from the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee in early October to prepare for announcing his presidential bid, reported the New York Post.

Phillips had commented on the CBS' 'Face the Nation' that Biden should not run for a second term, and “Democrats are telling me that they want, not a coronation, but they want a competition,” back in August.
“If we don’t heed that call, shame on us. And the consequences, I believe, are going to be disastrous,” he added.
He further said, “So, my call is to those who are well-positioned, well-prepared, of good character and competency, they know who they are, to jump in because Democrats and the country need competition. It makes everything better. That’s my call to them right now.”
As of now, two other Democrats have challenged Joe Biden for the primaries – self-help author Marianne Williamson and talk show host Cenk Uyghur.
