While the White House has remained relatively silent about the number of its staffers tested positive for the novel coronavirus, reports have so far revealed that 33 people from President Donald Trump's administration have contracted the virus so far. In the latest news, it has been learned that the head of the White House security office, Crede Bailey, is “seriously ill with COVID-19” according to Daily Mail. Reportedly, he has been in the hospital since September, much before the "super spreader" Rose Garden event on the 26th of the same month. It has also been said that four sources confirmed Bailey’s diagnosis to Bloomberg, which first reported his Illness, while the White House is yet to disclose details.

Who is Crede Bailey?

Bailey is a career federal employee, who was in the news in 2019 for being linked with the security clearances granted to Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, and son-in-law Jared Kushner. Even though he has made very rare appearances in the news, he is said to have privately testified to the House Oversight Committee that he wasn’t pressurized by others in the White House to grant clearances, The Hill reported.

The issue came to light in July 2019, when career staffer Tricia Newbold alleged that her then supervisor Cark Kline overruled her security clearance determinations owing to political influence. However, when Baily testified to Oversight, he defended Kline and expressed “upmost confidence” in the latter’s judgment. He further noted that Newbold’s criticisms of the security clearance process “stemmed from her lack of understanding and experience across government”, according to the Republican committee staff memo. However, House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings in response to the memo said, “The White House has refused to produce even one document to the Committee — not a single piece of paper — and it has blocked every question about the security clearance process for every White House official during the interviews we have tried to conduct.”

He further noted, “During the Obama Administration, there was no allegation too small for Republicans to investigate, but now that President Trump is in the Oval Office, there is no scandal too big for them to ignore.” Bailey’s diagnosis has everyone concerned as more and more cases are being revealed with each passing day.

One Twitter user wrote, "The WH is a death zone. “A top White House security official, Crede Bailey, is gravely ill with Covid-19 and has been hospitalized since September, according to four people familiar with his condition.” Another added, "THEY’VE BEEN HIDING THIS!!! WEEKS AGO!!! Omg - White House Security Official Crede Bailey Hospitalized With Covid-19 - Bloomberg" Another added, "Great. Do you have any, I don’t know, prayers for Crede Bailey? I’d like to see my President show a little sadness or remorse over White House staffers who are gravely ill and may die from COVID. I’d like to know my President cares about the people who work in his White House."

Meanwhile, some of them were seen speculating if Bailey was the source of the virus at the White House as he had been hospitalized much before the September 26 event. Channel 7 WABC- TV anchor Bill Ritter tweeted, “#BreakingNews  @ABC  reports that the head of the White House Security office, Crede Bailey, is very ill and has been hospitalized since September with coronavirus, sources confirmed to ABC News. Bailey was hospitalized prior to the Rose Garden event for Judge Barrett on Sept 26.” Seconding him another wrote, “"Crede Bailey contracted the virus before the September 26 Rose Garden event where President Donald Trump announced Amy Coney Barrett as his Supreme Court nominee, sources told Bloomberg. Over a dozen attendees of that ceremony have contracted the virus."

"Supposedly it’s been floating thru the WH for weeks now. Perhaps even months since we’ve heard a story here and there about WH cases. No official confirmation on part a yet. But I’m sure it’s coming," one tweet read and another said, "So he infected the secret service because he failed to disclose his condition and take proper precautions. I sure hope their families can receive justice both criminal and civil." One even went on to say: "Someone needs to ask why Bailey hasn’t been given Rogeneron that Trump just promised to everyone."

Although there is no confirmation on whether he was the one who brought it to the White House, several theories are floating around. We will update this space with the latest official reports.
