Who is Colton Moore? Georgia state senator suspended by Republican Caucus for advocating DA's impeachment over Trump indictment
TRENTON, GEORGIA: The Georgia Senate Republican Caucus has suspended 29-year-old Sen. Colton Moore after he attacked them for opposing his calls to impeach Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for indicting Donald Trump.
On Thursday, September 29, the Caucus announced that it was indefinitely suspending Moore, a first-term Republican whose district includes the western edges of Floyd County.
He assumed office on January 9, 2023, after running for election to the Georgia State Senate to represent District 53.
His career experience includes owning Moore Auction and working as an auctioneer/master of ceremony with Lamoreaux Auction & Appraisal LLC and as a truck driver.
What did Colton Moore say about the Georgia Senate Republican Caucus?
In a statement, the Caucus stated that Moore had been removed because of “his advocacy for his ill-conceived proposal.”
“Sen. Moore has a right to his opinion. However, during his advocacy for his ill-conceived proposal, Sen. Moore has knowingly misled people across Georgia and our nation, causing unnecessary tension and hostility, while putting his caucus colleagues and their families at risk of personal harm,” stated the group, which includes 32 of the Senate's 56 members from Georgia.
Following the announcement, Moore attacked his colleagues by calling them “Republicans in name only,” or RINOs.
“The Georgia RINOs responded to my call to fight back against the Trump witch hunts by acting like children and throwing me out of the caucus,” Moore wrote on X, formerly Twitter, adding “But I'm not going anywhere.”
“Unfortunately, now I will be forced to refer to my colleagues, who ran on being “Trump conservatives” as the RINO caucus,” he continued.
The Georgia RINOs responded to my call to fight back against the Trump witch hunts by acting like children and throwing me out of the caucus. But I’m not going anywhere.

Why was Moore called to impeach Fani Willis?
Moore, a steadfast Trump supporter, was one of the leading proponent backers of a special session to impeach, dismiss, or defund Willis' office, according to the Independent.
The calls to impeach Willis apparently began after she indicted the former President and 18 of his aides on charges related to their alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Nearly two years ago, the 52-year-old Willis opened a criminal investigation into Trump’s “attempts to influence the administration of the 2020 Georgia general election.”
Since then, Trump and his aides, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, have freely attacked Willis. Moore previously launched a petition for lawmakers to call themselves into special session, requiring signatures by three-fifths of both houses.
But, he only succeeded in getting the signatures of one Republican House member and one Republican senator.
After Moore’s calls fell flat, he allegedly tried to attack some other state senators. Republican state senators Bo Hatchett and Shelly Echols criticized Moore's call in a joint statement, alleging that he targeted them for retaliation and they received threats.
Georgia governor Brian Kemp also denounced Moore’s efforts, calling it a “political theater that only inflames the emotions of the moment.”
He also added that a special session “would ignore current Georgia law and directly interfere with the proceedings of a separate but equal branch of government.”
