DETROIT, MICHIGAN: Detroit police commissioner, Bryan Ferguson, was reportedly cited with "indecent obscene conduct" on Wednesday, July 12, for allegedly soliciting a prostitute within the city of Detroit. During the early morning hours of Wednesday, an undercover sergeant from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reportedly witnessed an individual, later identified as Ferguson, involved in a sexual act inside his truck near the intersection of Sorrento Avenue and Schoolcraft Road.

According to a sheriff's official, Ferguson allegedly informed the sheriff's deputies that he is a police commissioner, asking, "Can you help me out with this?" The woman who was involved with Ferguson was likewise charged with indecent obscene conduct and subsequently released. When contacted via phone on Wednesday afternoon, Ferguson vehemently denied engaging in any sexual activity with the woman.

Who is Bryan Ferguson?

Bryan Ferguson is a police commissioner who has been overseeing the Detroit police department since 2022. He previously served as the chairman of the board until July 1. Ferguson expressed his confusion regarding why the sheriff's deputies believed he was involved in a sexual act. He stated that he mentioned his role as a police commissioner only after the deputies claimed to recognize him.

He explained that while driving his truck in the morning, he heard a noise originating from the truck bed. Ferguson stated that he pulled over to inspect the source of the noise, and at that moment, he witnessed a woman running away from a man while screaming. According to Ferguson, the woman entered his vehicle without his consent, expressing fear for her safety.

"I start screaming at her: Get the f**k out of my truck. I was cussing — get the f**k out of my truck. Get out. Get out right now!'" Ferguson said, per ABC7. "She’s hollering out, please help me, he’s going to kill me! I said I don’t even care. Get out of my truck. While I was saying that, I’m trying to push her out of my truck... well, when I went to go step out of my truck, an SUV go pulling out with white lights."

'The situation is a big misunderstanding'

The board is scheduled to convene for its regular weekly meeting on Thursday. In a statement released on Wednesday night, Ferguson announced his intention to temporarily step back from attending these meetings. His statement said, "Today multiple media outlets released information alleging 'indecent conduct' this morning. The allegation is untrue and the situation is a big misunderstanding. I do not want this personal matter to become a distraction from the important oversight work this Board has to do. For that reason, I am making the decision to step back from the Board meetings for a time. The Board and the public should remain focused on the important work of oversight, transparency and accountability. I look forward to re-engaging with you soon. In the spirit of transparency and accountability, Commissioner Bryan Ferguson, District 1."
