Who is Alina Habba? Trump's glamorous lawyer says indictments are deliberately timed to divert attention from Bidens

WASHINGTON, DC: Alina Habba, former President Donald Trump's lawyer, held a press conference outside the DC federal courthouse on Thursday, August 3, alleging that each of the indictments against the ex-president was deliberately timed to divert attention from the Bidens. Habba further claimed that the latest charges, which are related to Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his alleged role in the January 6 Capitol attack, were politically motivated.

As Trump arrived at the E Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse for his arraignment, Habba addressed reporters, asserting that the focus should be on the bigger picture rather than just the January 6 case. She argued, "It's to tie up one individual who is running a campaign, in a campaign, running for office, for president, so that he is in court, in depositions, and distracted. So that he won't properly run for 2024."

Pattern of interference

Habba presented a timeline that she believed demonstrated a pattern of political interference. "March 17th, Hunter accidentally admits that it was his laptop from hell. The next day, DA Alvin Bragg indicts President Trump," she stated. "Last week, Hunter Biden’s sweetheart plea deal fell through when the judge realized it had blanket immunity. The following day, a superseding indictment against Donald Trump."

She pointed out that on July 31, when Hunter Biden's former business partner Devon Archer went to testify in front of the House, the January 6 indictment was issued. "This is not a coincidence; this is election interference at its finest against the leading candidate right now for president for either party," Habba asserted. "President Trump is under siege in a way we've never seen before. President Trump and his legal team and everyone on his team will continue to fight not for him but for the American people."

2024 election and Hillary Clinton comparison

Habba emphasized that the indictment was ultimately about the upcoming 2024 election, where Trump was leading both the Republicans and Biden in polling. She drew a comparison between Trump's reaction to the 2020 election results and Hillary Clinton's response when she lost to the Republican in 2016, highlighting the difference in treatment. "If your last name is Trump, it's very different," Habba said. "So Hillary Clinton could have a problem when she lost the election – a complete liberal meltdown as we all saw – but when we have dignified disagreements, we take them to court."

Regarding the upcoming 2020 election case, the next hearing is scheduled for August 28, where a trial date is expected to be issued by US district court judge Tanya Chutkan. After the event, Trump briefly spoke to reporters as he was driving back to Reagan National Airport in Virginia before flying out. "This is a very sad day for America, and it was also very sad driving through Washington DC and seeing the filth and decay and all of the broken buildings and walls with the graffiti," the former president lamented. "This is not the place that I left; it's a very sad thing to see it. When you look at what's happening, this is a persecution of a political opponent. This was never supposed to happen in America. This is the persecution of the person that's leading by very substantial numbers in the Republican primary and leading Biden by a lot, so if you can't beat it, you persecute them or prosecute them."
