'American Idol' Season 24 is getting 'Dancing With the Stars' crossover—Here's what's happening
'American Idol' and 'Dancing With The Stars' (DWTS) are two of the biggest reality television shows on ABC right now. The relative fame and popularity of the two shows are so consolidated in their spheres that a potential crossover has been long overdue. However, since all good things come to those who wait, ABC has now officially announced that 'American Idol' season 24 and 'Dancing With The Stars' will have an official crossover episode, scheduled to air on Monday, May 4, at 8 PM ET on ABC. As can be guessed, the crossover would be a landmark event and is much anticipated.
During the crossover, the top five contestants of the ongoing season of 'American Idol' will perform in two rounds. The first will comprise the 'DWTS' crossover, followed by the second round featuring duets with the stars of 'American Idol' season 5, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that season. The previous episode of the music competition show was titled 'Taylor Swift/California Night' and saw the Top 7 finalists being filtered down to the top 5. Daniel and Brooks Stallworth were eliminated as a result of which Chris Tungseth, Braden Rumfelt, Jordan McCullough, Hannah Harper, and Keyla Richardson moved ahead to the top five.
On the other hand, 'DWTS' pro dancer Jan Ravnik recently announced on the 'American Idol Official Podcast' that the pros featuring in the crossover episode include Gleb Savchenko, Jan Ravnik, Witney Carson, and Rylee Arnold. Although 'American Idol' and 'DWTS' have been around for a long time, with the former starting its journey back in 2002 and the latter debuting in 2005, the two reality television shows initially belonged to different networks. Following the 2016 FOX cancellation of 'American Idol', ABC revived the show in 2018, and thereby the two popular programs have been coexisting on the same network for eight years. Despite not having a crossover before, the two shows have had some noteworthy overlaps. Kellie Pickler, the season 5 finalist on 'American Idol,' was crowned as the winner of 'DWTS' season 16 along with her pro dancer partner Derek Hough.
'American Idol' season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina finished in fourth position on 'DWTS' with Gleb Savchenko, and season 6 champion Jordin Sparks finished in ninth position with Brandon Armstrong. Moreover, 'DWTS' pro and judge Derek Hough has previously appeared on 'American Idol' season 20 'Disney Night' as a guest mentor. That is not all, since the ongoing season of the music competition show saw pro dancer Sasha Farber as an industry expert in the Ohana round. In conclusion, it can be speculated that the upcoming episode of 'American Idol' season 24 will feature a nail-biting competition between the top five contestants.
