CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: USA Soccer's standout defender Naomi Girma has been grabbing headlines after the gane between the USWNT and Portugal ended in a scoreless tie on Tuesday, August 1.

The USWNT, the current world champions, proved their superiority by winning four Women's World Cups in 1991, 1999, 2015 and 2019, four Olympic gold medals in 1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012, and nine CONCACAF Gold Cups. While Alex Morgan received the Player of the Match award, USWNT fans believe Girma should have received the honor.

'Naomi Girma saved this team’s hinds repeatedly'

After the match, fans took to social media to voice their opinion. One fan said, "Alex Morgan got given player of the match at the stadium by FIFA in a game Naomi Girma saved this team’s hinds repeatedly #USA." The team's official account tweeted, "Helping keep the shutout, @naomi_girma is your @budlight Woman of the Match," to which a fan responded, "At least the USWNT admins have some sense here."
