LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Two Nevada teens, identified as Jesus Alaya and Jzamir Keys, are set to face trial as adults after they deliberately struck and killed retired Police Chief Andreas Probst.

17-year-old Alaya and 16-year-old Keys are accused of hitting Probst while he was riding his bicycle down an empty highway in the northwest of the city at around 6 am on August 14.

Ayala was detained the same day on suspicion of driving the 2016 Hyundai Elantra that struck the retired police officer.

Meanwhile, Keys, who was taken into custody last week as a result of a police information request, is said to have provoked the attack and recorded a disturbing video.

In the unsettling video, the pair was seen cursing at passing vehicles as they went at a high speed on the North Tenaya Way close to West Centennial Parkway.

The vehicle is then seen pulling up next to a man in a red t-shirt, riding a bicycle alongside the road. With his friends’ encouragement, the driver pulls into the bike lane behind him, honks his horn, and deliberately smashes directly into his back tire with a loud bang, sending the cyclist flying.

"Damn that [N-word] got knocked out!" the passenger yells as he records the man lying helplessly on the side of the road.

What are the charges Jesus Alaya and Jzamir Keys could face?

Keys and Alaya were transferred to the Clark County Detention Center on Wednesday, September 20.

The pair will face charges of murder with a deadly weapon, battery, and attempted murder in Las Vegas Justice Court, according to Daily Mail.

Two of Keys' relatives cried during his first appearance in court in front of Hearing Master Timothy Andrews. One of Ayala's female relatives also attended his appearance before Hearing Master Randall Forman and used the assistance of a translator.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Watson said during the hearings that Ayala had another case in the juvenile court system, where he is also eligible to be charged as an adult.

Documents obtained by 8 News Now revealed that Alaya has a lengthy record in the juvenile system. It also came to light that Keys was in the child welfare system at 8 years old.

His mother was charged with five counts of child abuse in 2016 after officers found her five children, ages two to nine years old, home alone without access to food, a knife left on a kitchen counter, and the house in poor condition.

Who was Andreas Probst?

After a 35-year-long career in law enforcement, Probst retired in 2009 and moved to Las Vegas, where he had a remote job for a security consulting firm, and took up cycling as a way to stay in shape.

His daughter Taylor Probst told the Review-Journal that she received an alarm from her father's Apple Watch on the morning of August 14 indicating that he had fallen.

She immediately rushed to the scene with her mother but by the time they arrived, Probst was already transferred to a local hospital where he died later.

The devastation left behind was grim. "I come from law enforcement as well in my younger days," Crystal told the newspaper, adding, "I was able to ascertain, there's his bike, his helmet is way over there, his phone is way over there. I'm like, this is not good."

Community members gathered at the scene of the deadly incident on September 7 to honor Probst with Ghost Bike, a permanently mounted bike that's painted white to denote the collision site.
