Which comic series is Disney+'s 'Secret Invasion' based on? MCU miniseries welcomes the Skrulls

This might be one of Marvel’s biggest undertakings from comics to the screen and might just work in favor of the franchise, which could use a win. One of the main reasons ‘Secret Invasion’ is highly anticipated is because it’s based on one of the most popular comic book series.
Some of the most famous comic series in Marvel are ‘Civil War’ and ‘Secret Invasion’. The former has already been turned into a movie, which was highly successful. Now, the latter is being turned into a miniseries. In six episodes, the show intends to cover one of the most epic storylines that have ever existed, and there’s a lot to know about the origin of it all.
Which storyline is ‘Secret Invasion’ based on?
In June 2008, ‘Secret Invasion’ was a comic book series that ran for a total of eight issues, and was written by Brian Michael Bendis. The focus of this comic series was the Skrull invasion, which will be centric in MCU's ‘Secret Invasion’ led by Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson). The Skrulls trying to invade Earth and make it their new home began back in 2004 in the ‘New Avengers #31’ comic. So, it was time this storyline made its way to the screen as well.
The original comic series was a major crossover event and included characters, ranging from Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Black Widow, Wasp, Luke Cage, Wolverine, Human Torch, Thing, Ms Marvel, Thor, and several others. These characters are barely scratching the surface. As there were so many characters and storylines, it also meant heavy repercussions for the entire Marvel universe. There were also several tie-in issues, making this one of the biggest comic events as aforementioned. The Disney+ series will take inspiration from these comics and the focus will remain on the Skrulls, and Nick Fury defending his home.
Nick Fury is at the heart of ‘Secret Invasion’
While Jackson appears from time to time with his catchy lines and cold attitude in MCU, he is taking the lead in ‘Secret Invasion’. After being blipped along with half the world, it looks like Fury had a tough time adjusting to the normal world, just like the others. But, if there’s anyone who can save Earth from this invasion, it is Fury.
Fury has been a constant in Marvel comics and the MCU, and his role in ‘Secret Invasion’ can make or break the consequences faced by Earth, and every project that is released after this one. So, there is no doubt that ‘Secret Invasion’ is going to be an important addition, and you can read all the comics to have a better understanding, but remember, trust no one.
